O.K. . .LSU really didn't need the help, as they scored three plays later, but did anybody see the hit the Referee made on South Carolina's quarterback, John Garcia, last weekend.
Check this out!

And we were playing at their field! Did someone pay the Ref? Talk about having a 12th man on the field.

It's almost like that commercial where the ref trips the player to extend the game.......LOL
That ref in the clip was a linebacker at Kentucky during his playing days. He showed good form (for a Kentucky linebacker....LOL)

We don't get any respect. No respect I tell ya.... even the ref gets into the action.....:D
On the positive side that freshman quarterback Steven Garcia looks like the real deal. Spurrier's just got to "coach him up". Needs to learn to "avoid the ref....ur...rush".
:huh
Looked like he lunged at the qb...

What convinced me was, if you watch closely before he makes the hit he takes two steps towards the play, with all the room in the world behind him. Squares his feet up solid and leans into the play. Totally intentional.

Funny how neither coach nor the SEC felt it was "intentional". Must just be the experts out in TV land.

Now, on the flip side. My grandfather used to played middle linebacker in his college days. . . .Anyway, in later years, he was a referee at high school games. He said that players would sometimes try to take him out also. He would give them a forearm or shoulder and they usually wouldn't do it anymore. Maybe the ref didn't get out of the way on a previous play and this was just payback.
He definitely squared up and took a poke at the guy!

Also, where was that guy when we played Florida? We could've used him!

Has to be more to the story. He obviously went after Garcia, but as was said above, I'll bet that Garcia "picked" off of him on a previous play.
Still, the ref showed sh#t judgement and should be sidelined for a while.

Wow. Looks like he did step up and lower his shoulder.
I would say intentional and not self defense.
Maybe he had a flashback...I am guessing that happens every now and then.
He just wanted to HIT SOMEBODY.
I bet he was glowing after the game.:D

Check out this clip that someone did a "Bud Lite" commercial with the footage from the LSU-USC game!

Oh, I just don't find any humor in that. The QB could have been hurt......you know.....suffered a dislocated shoulder.......or even death.

Dude!. . .what are you talking about. There's no profanity in that clip, nor in any of the posts above this one. Besides, didn't you post a LOL on an earliler post about the original clip looking like the commercial where the ref wanted to extend the game. Looks like someone already used the clip to do that.

As we say here in Louisiana. . ."My Bad." I didn't see the other thread and assumed you didn't see any humor in the new "Bud Lite Commercial."
Sorry. . .No harm, No foul. . .as ref picks up the flag and waives it off.

From the comments on the vid, I gather that both teams had been running picks off the refs all night. Looked to me like he was just holding his ground, and given the energy transfer involved he'd have to square up and throw a block just to avoid getting knocked on his ass.
Personally, I think it's crazy to have a ref in the middle of the play anyway, but if they have to be there - Hell, let 'em hold their ground.

Picks around refs are part of the game.
Retaliating by a ref isn't.(he did swagger after the hit)
Look closely at the video again, the ref stepped up and lowered the shoulder.
Like I said earlier, he probably had a flashback and got caught up in the moment.
quote from Youtube...Funny........
that's why the SEC gets laughed at every yr. Our refs don't know how to wrap up. Come on, a shoulder tackle? Your better than that.

But it WAS a QB.
:D
Ref shouldn't have been in a ball carrying lane. If he had been where he belonged, he wouldn't have to defend himself. More amazing is how the tackler didn't go over the ref to make the tackle.

I DID find it funny AND that ref should be suspended for a long time if not banned for life. That is utterly unacceptable behavior for a zebra and what if anything may possibly have occurred previously between him and the player or team is irrelevant.

I don't watch football but in my opinion that was completely intentional. The ref takes more than two steps, he takes several steps forward, lines up, and then takes a side step or two TOWARDS the guy (not away) in order to intersect the QB, who is moving to try to get clear of the guy.
If the ref had not moved he would have still been 1) out of the play, and 2) could observe the play as a ref. Both of these characterize his job. But he moved both forward and laterally with intention to hit that guy. Bizarre.
Did the ref provide any explanation (or was he even asked)?

Dude, what's with all the hate?
Fair enough - we're cool LJ! :AOK
It appears Spurrier let the ref incident go... After watching it several more times,,, I think he did have a flashback to his linebacker days. He stands there after the play kinda in shock - I think he was having one of those "I can't believe I just did that" moments..

How is this ref still employed?
Because he didn't do anything wrong. According to BOTH coaches and the SEC. Since when do internet football "experts" have the final say?
Geez. Everyone else has moved on. Why can't the experts in the peanut gallery?
Oh....and for the "experts", he was the umpire, not the referee. So, for all of you calling out the "ref", you need to school up.

really??
It looks to me like the ref was cheating forward a little to get out of the way, and just began to move smartly forward when at the same instant the quarterback cuts sharply to his right and into the ref, then the ref reflexively put his right arm/shoulder up.
And it was hardly a hit, although it did force the quarterback to change where he was going and squared him up for the final hit by the linebacker.
I don't see what the big deal is.

1. May I recommend a chill pill?
2. Never claimed to be an expert...
3. ... nor do you have any position to tell people they belong in some "peanut gallery."
4. Get over yourself and understand that others may disagree with your opinion.
5. This is supposed to be a friendly place. I sure can appreciate different opinions, but calling names is a bit out of line if you ask me.
6. Peace.

I think mge80 should start every football thread, and then be given the ability to lock it immediately...
Whatever he says about football *is* all that needs to be said, after all.
He is/was a Letterman, ya know. May we call you Dave?
