Going through some old, tucked away CDs and came across this Paul Rogers CD. Muddy Water Blues; A tribute to Muddy Waters. (1993)

Paul Rogers has such a solid voice. What a talent.

Jason Bonham on drums. Nice playing, but his kit was too strong for the blues. Too much of a cannon for a snare.

Pino Palladino on bass. Very nice. His playing served the songs.

And a host of guests on guitar...
Buddy Guy..............Trevor Rabin
Jeff Beck................Brian Setzer
Neal Schon.............Slash
David Gilmour..........Richie Sambora
Brian May...............Steve Miller
and Gary Moore.

Very interesting to hear their varying styles. Slash shows himself to be a little more versatile than many probably think.
Beck and May are unmistakable.
Gilmour was true to the blues. Outstanding.
Gary Moore can ROCK.

Overall, it's a fun disc. Well worth the $4.00 I paid for it, used, back in '05!

I was supposed to open that show in SF .I was really excited as Free was my favorite thing in the world as a child. I cut trees for a livin at the time ,8-10 hours a day.I was bustin outa my skin after work that day to get over to the city.I get over there and they tell me their scratchin my set because the people at the Travelodge across the alley from the Music Hall were complaining about the noise from the generators from the mobile recording unit.Needless to say I was kinda bummed .I didn't stay for the show ..........

I still dig that cd too! "Louisiana Blues" is just sick sounding (in a good way).

Paul Rodgers can sing the phone book and be badass...
But it's an uneven CD w/ Jeff Beck perhaps stealing the show...

Give me a mojo hand!

One of the most underrated cd's ever imho. Gotta love the Jason Bonham thunderdrum production...pickers a plenty and Pauls wail...

Great stuff.

That's a shame Alvis...would have been a nice highlight.
Thiose noise police are everywhere!

I'd be interested in hearing this as Muddy has always been a favorite and I can see Gilmour doing justice to this.

Perhaps???? His reading of Good Morning Little Schoolgirl is worth the price of admission alone.

Sorry to hear that Alvis. Got to be a blues song there! :-) Been puttin' it off, but I'll go order Motivational Speaker to try to ease your pain.
Yea, I like the album, but would agree that it's uneven. I don't know what goal they had in mind. But it felt some of the guitar players were molding Muddy's work to THEIR style rather than bending their own style towards Muddy. Has a little 80's rock feel to it.

A great CD.

Slash's lead is priceless.

I think Setzer's song is great. What tone.

Beck is great.

Gilmour shows great soul.

And the singing is stellar.
