This is a general audiophile question.
The other day I was listening to a download of the Buckingham - Nicks album (pre-Fleetwood Mac). Someone had created it from vinyl (it's not yet released on CD to my knowledge). You know what? It sounded pretty damn good (the music & recording).
For the sake of argument, let's say a band's master tapes were all lost in a fire (boo freakin' hoo). All they had left were prestine copies of their records on LP vinyl. Given access to top o' the line turntables, preamps etc. etc. would they be able to create a nice two track for CD or digital format? Is vinyl a pretty good source for a digital format given good equipment?
