I am looking at these two amps. Has anyone played both of these amps? I am wondering what the sonic differences might be. Does the 18 have enough headroom, would it be loud enough for medium size clubs. It looks the the Titan would not be much heavier than the 18 to haul around. Any insight would be appreciated.

I have owned and gigged both the titan and the 18. I preferred the Titan for clean headroom and overall punch. However the 18 has a nice grind at volume levels that are somewhat less than the titan.

My reinhardt 18 with a 2x12 cab (wizard and tonespotter) at 16 ohms is louder than needed for any club.

and tone galore.

After owning an 18 , I think that I would go with the Titan w/ Powerscaling, then you will have the best of both worlds.......

+1

That's exactly my sentiment too. Clean headroom was a tad too limited with my 18. I think the titan will fix that.

I bought a new Titan with Power Scaling recently and it's fantastic.

That's the way to go.

I bought it just in case I needed more head room for summer shows.

A month ago, I quit my band, am playing at home now, and I pulled two tubes.

So, now I have power scaling on an 18 with the option to put the tubes back in.

I had an 18 and a Titan.
Go for a Titan w/pwr scaling.
I had to be right next to my 18 or I couldn't hear it over a loud drummer.
The Titan was better in this regard and also had a more clean headroom and girth.

I've owned an 18 and played the titan. The 18 has virtually NO headroom whereas the titan does and, imho, the titan sounds much better than the 18 (I like the bigger, fuller sound of the larger tubes)

I don't want to cause any GAS or heartburn (as the case may be) for fellow Reinhardt owners of the 18, but I just put two tubes (now have 4 in) back into my Titan after playing with two tubes pulled for several months, and as good as the 18 sounded, there is just so much more going on with this amp with the four tubes back in. The harmonics just put a smile on my face. This thing honestly sounds like a different amp. I loved it as an 18, but there's just so much more going on now.

I highly encourage lovers of the 18 to take a long hard look at the Titan.

The Titan looks like a really cool amp. I love my MI-6.

Don't they use the same tubes?

For medium or larger venues I'd go with a Titan. The 18 is perfect for the smaller clubs. It is plently loud enough for the bigger venues, but as said above, you may not have all the clean headroom you need in this setting especially of you have a Les Paul. I can keep my 18 pretty clean with a strat.

The 18 I owned had 2 El84's while the Titan had 4 EL34's and packed a nice keraaaang with a greenback loaded 2x12.

Interesting. Was it a custom build or an older model? Does he still offer this?

The Titan uses 4 EL84s. It's the 18 watter x2.
