View Full Version : I honestly think there is nothing more fun on guitar than banging out AC/DC tunes!

I mean really. Crank up that non-MV Marshall to a nice mid level crunch and just hammer out "If you Want Blood", "Let's Get It Up", "TNT", "Back In Black", whatever! The greatest open chord riffs ever. I can literally sit there and play them for hours on end and never get bored.
I think I need to join an AC/DC cover band as Malcom. I don't think my life will be complete until I play a whole set of these tunes in front of a crowd.
I need my Jet back, Greg......I am coming to collect!!!!

My ears are still ringing from those MKII Superleads I used in the mid-70's... I remember that the things didn't start to sound "cranked" until you hit about 4-1/2 on the volume knob - and that was "Loud"!!! (and I mean "cops at your front door" loud.) BUT, you're right... power chords never sounded better than on a cranked Superlead...

Well, I do it with a 50 Watt Plexi Trem head, but it would be even more fun with a 100 watter....just not at home. LOL.

I know what you mean. Been hunting down an SG just to make it right.
Truer words have never been spoken. AC/DC is pure joy.

I hear ya! Snagged tickets to the AC/DC show coming up in Detroit... been playing their riffs ever since... I use a Marshall 1974x and a Landgraff M'OD pedal for basement friendly volumes. Will be in tone nirvana when the SG/LP I just traded for arrives.

Also, the key to TRUE AC/DC nirvana is a Gretsch. If you have never plugged a filtertron Gretsch into a Marshall and played AC/DC tunes, you have not lived. I am Gretschless right now and I am in serious withdrawal. I am having to make do with a Les Paul. Not the same!!!!

I agree, AC/DC has stretched the limits of the 3 chord rock song, and it never gets old.
To paraphrase Eddie Van Halen: "AC/DC really has just one song....but it's a great ****ing song"

I totally agree with the OP. Those songs never get old and everyone loves 'em! When I want to get myself and a crowd energized, nothing works like AC/DC!

I actually feel guilty because I play so much acdc (zeppelin gets a lot of my attention also)
but its not JUST because its "easy" (any one can bang out power chords but to get the tone and feel of the Young brothers is not easy) but because it sounds awesome and its fun as hell...honestly...even non-guitar players should learn the intros to acdc tunes...

The Dearmond M75T or M77T does a really REALLY good Malcom on the bridge pickup. And they are a good bit cheaper than a high level Gretsch. Usually around $400 - $500 if you can snag one.

I couldn't agree more. I was goofing around in my brother's basement a year or two ago. At the time, I had my Duo Jet with me, so I plugged into my 50 watt Marshall combo, and VIOLA! there it was. Such a sound!
