Wow, I was in Spain yesterday driving around listening to Merl and Jerry "Live at the Keystone". I hadn't listened to it in years until last night. RIP

Very sad news indeed. He was a helluva musician, for sure.
The best band ever just got another player. RIP

Just heard this at load in for a gig tonight. I think we're going to do either Feel Like Dynomite or Problems Got Problems (which I just learned the lyrics to). RIP Merl, and say hey to Martin F for me.

I was just wondering how he was doing, I even googled him to see what was up. got to see him several times, he was always inspired. Never forget the story he told one night. He and Jerry had just covered Imagine by John Lennon, they were the first ones to do a cover of the song. I guess they were playing a gig at the Keystone several nights later and in walks Lennon. Dropping by to thank them for doing the song. It meant a lot to Merl.

Merle gave me the best post dead shows I have ever been too. The last time I saw him he played a darkstar that was so amazingly good. Funky as anything I have ever heard.
He was so gracious as a musician and a human. Humble and very much in the moment.
Miss ya brother man...

Hey Joe,
I too shared some shows with him back in the late 80's, when he was doing the Merle Saunders and the Rainforest Band thing. I didn't know him well, but he was always sweet, and always smiling.

He was a very positive person, and had a great life (at least it seems so).

Sorry to hear the news - jv

I tried to make it to see Merl whenever he was playing nearby - always great music, wish I could have caught some more shows. Think I'll look through my collection and put on some LoM.

Hal Kant, the Grateful Dead's long time lawyer and all around good guy, died last week. Another one gone.

RIP...
Man, is there a curse to those keyboardists Jerry played with, or is it just fate?

I'd say he lived a full life compared to the other GD key players- plus he died of natural causes......not drug or alcohol related.

RIP Merle! He was a good man for sure!!!
