Just finished watching this tonight on BBC4 here in the UK. The man is just amazing. I was half expecting a sort of Jazz concert considering the location but he played a greatest hits show with Joss Stone joining him for vocals on People get Ready, I thought she was a bit out of her depth and she looked like she couldn't get off stage fast enough at the end. Imogen Heep sang a number which I think was called My Baby Covers Me which was great and the show finished off with him and Eric Clapton doing a burning version of Willie Dixons You need Love. The bassist Tal something looks about 12 but what a player as was the keyboard player and drummer.

Tal Wilkenfeld is the bassist, she does look 12, but I think she's more like 22 or 23... website is http://www.talwilkenfeld.com/Tal.html - looks like it hasn't been updated lately...

The keyboard player is Jason Rebello... website is http://www.jasonrebello.co.uk/

The drummer is the amazing Vinnie Colaiuta, who has played with almost everyone on Earth... website is http://www.vinniecolaiuta.com/

Tal is killer! One of the freshest, greatest bassits I have heard in a while.

She's like 23! OMG!

I've seen Jeff Beck many times in the dim and distant, but this show was one of the best. He is an absolute master - his range of expression on the electric guitar is unparalleled. Even Clapton with his blocked-off trem was a poor advocate of the Fender Stratocaster when compared to Beck.
The whole show was brilliant, and Beck and the band's accompaniment to the guests was tasteful and restrained.
Anyone in the UK can (must !) watch it now on the BBC iplayer. Others will have to wait for the DVD .

BTW anyone old enough see the resemblance between Tal Wilkenfeld, and the girl on the Blind Faith album cover ? - http://www.angelfire.com/wi/blindfaith/vvcov69.html

the link to EC with JB was GREAT!
man, jeff is still a very humble cat...i love his remark when EC comes on stage, "i might as well feck oaf, then!"

i realized watching it, i had a big smile on my face. they were having fun, and i was too.
and DITL was really inspiring, my fave version of all i've seen him do.

Jeff Beck is the most surprising of all guitarists. Even though you know to expect the unexpected he will still surprise you.

For a guy who was around in the 60s and 70s to still be so relevant and fresh is truly amazing.

That was ten minutes of goosebumps.

I have seen Jeff live twice and each time it never changes. The hair on the back of neck stands up and I get a chill up my spine. Just like I did when I first heard him when I was eight years old.

That is why I play guitar.

What you said, I couldn't agree with you more. He has this uncanny ability to do a sort of musical slight of hand. It is like watching a magician do a good magic trick right in front of you and it kind of takes your breath away and you end up saying, "how you do that?" Beck is so surprising. Really, I've seen him live at least 6 times and have never ever once been anything less than completely satisfied.

Amazing - having Vinnie killing it behind you doesn't hurt either. That totally brought a big smile to my face - I just wish they'd have done a couple more. I'm gready I guess.

I want to know how he keeps his Strat in tune with all the trem action he uses:D

Seriously though, the show was just amazing. He plays with so much feeling and individuality, it's mesmerising. The band was tight and were obviously having fun. I could have done without Joss Stone though, as she's no match for Jeff IMO.

Thats funny.. I read a story about Randy Rhoads asking EVH back in the 1977-1978 (before the floyd rose) how he kept his guitar in tune with all the trem abuse... EVH said "oh man...I cant tell you, its a trick that Jeff Beck showed me.."

He actually has a pedalboard believe it or not. I watched the show, don't remember seeing it on the screen but could hear some pedals. Snarling Dogs wah, Rotosphere, etc....plus he had a rackmount unit on top of the Marshalls, I believe it was a reverb unit.

I saw a TREX replica there... and some red pedal that looked like a wah..

...jeff utterly mystifies me.

there are so many awesome, astoundingly brilliant guitarists.

and then there's beck.

untouchable.

and has been forever. i've heard ancient yardbird's recordings where he pulls off the seemingly impossible and unthinkable.

I hate him... he makes it look so easy :drool

Check out the closeups of his hands and fingers in the video. Nothing much seems to be going on there, simple riffs, a little trem action here and there, yet he manages to create the most unique and emotional sounds.

Does he have that tremelo arm bent out a bit more than usual?

Does he have that tremelo arm bent out a bit more than usual?

It certainly looks more bent than usual. According to his guitar tech he uses the litte finger for volume, middle & third to press \ pull the arm and thumb and index for picking.

When I saw him at Ronnie Scotts he played Train kept-a-rollng during the first rockabilly set (the second was his usual rock\fusion set). At one point he thumped out a bass line on the 6th string with his thumb while picking melody lines with his middle to little fingers on the upper strings. At the same time he struck a typical rock guitarist pose and laughed at one of the other band members! His righthand technique seems to be second nature to him. Must take hours and hours of practice.

I got an advance copy of the CD as I am the network admin for a large DVD and music online retailer. The head of music distribution gave me the copy he received from the studio as a sampler. Worth owning for sure. The funny thing is, is that the CD nor the tracks are even listed in the CDDB yet. This will be cool to have on DVD as well
