I'm looking forward to this:

NEW YORK (Billboard) – A solo album or the third Velvet Revolver album -- or possibly both -- are on Slash's docket for 2009.
The guitarist told Billboard that he's "at the very tail end of the demo phase" for the solo project, which he hopes to start recording early next year.
He began creating material during Velvet Revolver's last tour and said that while it will have references to his work with that band and Guns N' Roses, "there's really no particular direction. I just wanted to take a little bit of a break from all the politics and the democracy that is a band and just sort of do my own thing for a little bit. There will be a lot of stuff I don't have the freedom to do in a band situation."
Slash plans to use different singers for each of the album's songs but isn't divulging who's on the list yet. "They're all sort of well-known singers," he said. "It's sort of like how I go play on a lot of other people's records, so other people will just play on this one."
Slash cautioned that the solo album could be interrupted if Velvet Revolver finds a replacement for vocalist Scott Weiland in the near future. The group has turned down offers to conduct the search via a reality TV show -- "There's such a huge lack of integrity in that process" -- but is considering a variety of possibilities, including some established singers whose interest has surprised the band.
"There's been a couple that might have been interesting," Slash said, "but with any of those 'name' people ... it's really hard to make something sound original if you've got somebody people are so familiar with hearing somewhere else."

I like Slash quite a bit, mostly because of Appetite for Destruction. I hope he puts together some great music. He's one of the ones that really is capable of creating something amazing I think.

Big fan. Appetite had some of the best rock tones I've experienced. Hes got a good feel for melody and adding what a song needs. He excels when there is a rhythm guit player, to me that is when he is in his element.

I wonder if he's more comfortable in a band setting. I've always wanted him to just do his own thing.

He's one of my favorite players. I loved everything he did in Guns N' Roses - I can hum the majority of his solos. I'm not sure his playing since he left Gn'R is quite as melodic, but I still love his playing - he has one of my favorite LP tones.

Loved his book as well - really funny.

I'm a fan as well. Loved AFD, liked Illusion 1 & 2, kinda lukewarm on the VR stuff.

He's actually a super nice & cool guy - I worked with him a bit recently. No ego apparent! Very refreshing.

He's the reason I play guitar! I lived AFD when I was kid...

Glad to hear you thought he was a cool guy. He was the ultimate guitar hero to me and nearly everything I have heard from guys who have met him, confirms that he's not an arsehole... that goes a long way.

In the most un-cliche'd way possible, Slash is one of my biggest guitar heroes. On most of the recordings I have (that includes all the Guns stuff, as well as all his solo stuff. I'm not a big fan of VR though, seems just kind of bleh to me) he has the incredible ability to add just enough. There is never a ridiculous amount of wankery, but there is always a little lead tid-bit where someone else wouldn't think to put one. And his sound is absolutely phenomenal. I'll take him and Marc Ford against any one any day! :)

Anyone want to take a guess as to who will be the singers?

Rob Zombie?
Chris Cornell?
Paul Rodgers?
Chris Daughtry?
Insane Clown Posse?
Rod Stewart?
Iggy Pop?
Alice Cooper?
Michael Jackson?
Sammy Hagar?
Sebastian Bach?

As rock guitarists go, he's one of my favorites. His guitar work just seems so unpretentious and hummable. I'm not so much of his VR work, it sometimes come off like he was meeting Weiland halfway stylistically. But man oh man....Appetite was like my holy bible growing up.

However you really can't appreciate Slash without giving a nod to Izzy Stradlin.

I suspect that part of why the VR stuff left me flat is the lack of Izzy Stradlin on rhythm guitar. If you really listen to what he was doing behind Slash you get a real sense of how he pushed and pulled a song along. It was just never the same without him, they were rock's great combustible two guitar team in the late 80's and early 90's.

It's hard not to be a fan of Slash if you like rock guitar. He's a certified guitar hero.

However, he really needs a collaborator. His solo stuff is simply awful in terms of songcrafting. But the GNR and VR stuff is genius. I have a feeling Axl and Scott is deserved more credit than Slash would like to give them.

I think he is a great soloist in a band setting. Not sure if he can write a great song though.

All the tracks on AFD have either Izzy or Duff writing with Slash. Based on the songs on The snake pit stuff I would say they are just giving him writing credit for his solos.

Mixed feelings.
No doubt that his guitar work in GNR was stellar by any standard.
Those solos have not aged a day and still contain more melody than so many other guys could even dream of.
But, reading his autobio, he's not the best example of a human being. A lifetime of self-indulgence in booze, drugs and compulsive theft, living in a la-la-land of his own creation might make a good story, but it's hard to admire.
VR was a bit insipid to me. I think he needs Axl's songwriting to really shine, but when he does, shield your eyes !!
At thins pint he's like GNR. CAn't live on glory days alone any more. If he wants to get kudos for new material, it's got to stand on it's own.

You hit the nail on the head. Izzy was terrific- the type of guitarist that I like to be in a band situation. His loose but groove infested playing was what made Slash's solos and tone work so well. He wrote a lot of the GNR stuff that I liked. When he left, GNR were only half a band. He was responsible for the essential "roll" to Slash's "rock".

A good number of GnR's best tunes were penned by Izzy and Axl, sometimes just Izzy. Izzy once said something to the effect of "In Guns N' Roses, I would come up with an idea for a song and the first thing that would always happen was Slash getting hold of it and going chunka-chunka-chunka!"

+1 If he's doing another album, he needs to get Izzy to at least help write songs. Izzy has apparently put out several CD's but no one ever hears them.

Did anyone else see Steven Adler on VH1 Celebrity Rehab breaking down because Slash didn't pick him to play drums on his solo album? I don't know if Adler could even play a tambourine properly now.

I agree with the other posts above that Izzy was an essential part of GnRs sound. Also if you read interviews with how Gilby and Dave tried to do what Izzy and Slash had done, you know they see how important Izzy was to their sound. This would be a great time for Slash to call Izzy and just get him to play rhythm for ANY future records. Izzy hasn't been givin enough credit IMO. Also, even if you dont like Axl, his voice made the band..... He delivered the goods!
