I just got a call from Barbara Sweet and she asked to me to thank everybody for all that they have done for them in their time of need.
Bob, himself, has said to me over and over again how he is so appreciative for the kindness and generosity of others and how he simply finds it hard to find the words. He told me that he would thank everybody and I know how much it would mean to him for you all to know the love that he had in his heart for all of you.
Bob passed away on Friday after a rough month of suffering from bone Cancer.
I feel terrible about this but grateful to have been able to call him my friend.
He really was quite the guy. God bless you Bob

I got the call from George and heard the terrible news.
At a loss for words now, I just feel so awful about it.
On the upside, Sweetsound may be continuing to exist.
Bob's wife may be carrying on the company, still issuing Ultra Vibe's and Mojo Vibe's in the least.
More of that to come...
for now she is taking care of funeral arrangements and of course,
grieving.
Bob was such a great guy, I'll really miss you buddy.

I bought one of Bob's early Ultravibe pedals back in the 90's before he had dealers. He was such a great guy to talk to, very kind and patient. At the time he was relatively unknown. I'm happy for him that he was able to establish himself in the industry, and very sad in his passing. From seeing posts of his improvement, this must have been a terrible rollercoaster ride for him and his family.
God be with them.

I am so sorry to hear this news. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
Bob was a kind and gentle spirit with whom I had the great pleasure of doing business a couple years ago. He sold me a Mojo Vibe as a trade on some 18W stuff. It was one of the first of the pink Mojo Vibes. Ser #35, signed by Bob inside. I'll treasure this one. We spoke on the phone a couple times and I always came away thinking "What a nice guy."

Hi,
I was a guitarshow this last weekend, demoing all kinds of gear and among them Bob Sweet's.
As I remember conversating with Bob I told people to buy one of Bob's creations- hey, he's got cancer in his spine and he's married- you will not recover from something like that .......yes I had hoped he'd get better and still be around, and to my ear his pedals are trueley good.
I know there's much more, like Bob was a great guitarslinger, a humble and intelligent guy and a great human being. I will not even begin to grasp what a loss this is to Bob's family...all the smiles and happy words that made life easier to live, that also as I only met Bob professionally..............once a few years back I got a proto for Mojovibe and Bob sent me an angry mail in which he wondered if I'd take that apart and copy that............in which case I would according to Bob have no luck............I told him though that that was not the case- I would just show this unit a guitarshow and tell what I felt was good about the unit and see if I could get any local distributors interested......I think it took until photos were up until he really believed that and maybe until I wrote about the Mojovibe and what I felt was good and superior about it........
Yea, I know Bob was sceptic to people, but I also know how much deeper that felt when something was actually good.
To me I think Bob made a mark in guitar effects history and I will remember from this day.
My grandfather went the same way and then I went to a park and screamed in the solitude of the trees in anger and loss.
I know Bob was a driven designer and I feel the loss of a colleague.
If someone would organize aid for Bob's family count me in
Rest on a pillow of beautiful flowers my friend lost.

Bob was very nice to me. And even when he needed some $$$, he still fixed my Ultravibe, that I broke due to my own stupidity, for free. When I found out what he was up against, I sent some dough, of course. But it shows you what kind of a guy he was. He will be missed. I had hoped he was getting better. Very sad.

I first came across this while checking out Huge Racks, couldn't believe till I confirmed it right here on TGP. :(
I'm saddened to say the least, it made me really sad to see someone like Bob go through what he did when I first found out of his cancer.
I bought a Mojovibe about 3-4 years ago, I wanted to find out more about the various settings, the trimpot and the dip switches. I made a call all the way from Singapore to Bob, no one picked up the phone.
Half an hour I get a call from Bob himself telling me he's here to help me with anything at all.
Our 5 minute chat turns into a hour plus long conversation about music, the music scene in Singapore, the weather here, our way of life, my gear...HIS gear, his story, the bands he played in, the music he loved. Hell I didn't even buy it new, I got it used off TGP, they were so hot then, they were impossible to buy new. And still knowing full well of this, Bob still treated me the way he did.
All I did was shell out some coin to buy a pedal across the globe, Bob treated me like a rockstar.
You'll be missed Bob, you really will.
Rest in peace.

I knew Bob back in the late 80's. We had a long distance friendship, when I was writing MIDI software and he was a working musician in Detroit. We'd sometimes spend hours yakking on the phone, and then he'd spend hours more downloading software updates from my computer. They probably delivered his phone bill in a pickup truck! :jo
We lost touch after I moved to Northern California, but hooked up again through the HCFX forum earlier this year. The last thing he said to me was that he'd call when he got the chance and we'd catch up.
I never got that call.
Farewell, Bob. We miss you.

I wrote to him about Vibes not too long ago, and he replied promptly and with courtesy.
I found out later the level of pain that reply probably caused him. In a world where many cannot be bothered to take the time to help someone out, it really struck me how he did so when he was dealing with his own pain and health issues.
I respected the way he ran his business and will miss his knowledge, spirit, and personality around here.

A little update:
The funeral is in Michigan and Barbara said that in lieu of flowers we should all buy ourselves a pedal or toy because that is what Bob would want us to do!
You know how they say that you become like your spouse after being married for awhile?
Well, imho, Barbara is as nice as Bob and I can hear the Bob vibe in her way of speaking.
During our conversation the only musical acts that came up, as they related to Bob in different ways, were Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead.
After we hung up I decided to turn the radio on, which I rarely do, and first tune was a Hendrix tune followed by the Grateful Dead.
All I can say is Happy Halloween Bob!

I remember when Bob's illness was first brought to the general publics attention I shared with him how playing the guitar was rhe only thing that kept the noise away of my own Illness.
Bob wrote to me and said he knew exactly what I was saying and if there was anything he could do to let him know,
Well I wrote back and told him I was feeling better and had stopped the chemo in late August and that there was light at the end of the tunnel. Damit
JUST THINK WHO BOB'S JAMMIN WITH NOW.

Bob helped me sort out the internal trimpots of a mojo vibe I had bought used. He obviously didn't have to do that, but he took a considerable amount of his own time to teach me how to use his product and how to set the controls just right... What an incredible man! What a sad loss for the music community...
I treasure that Mojo Vibe--I've never even considered getting rid of it.
I'll be praying for the Sweet family...

It was just so sad to see this thread. I didn't have it in me to respond until now. I would like to express my heart felt condolences to Bob's family.
When I ordered my Ultra Vibe II last year there were fairly long delays in communication although I wasn't worried because Bob had a great reputation and it was also getting close to Christmas and I figured that he was just swamped with orders. When Bob got back to me he explained that he had been ill and apologized profusely for the delays. I told him not to sweat it and in fact to put the pedal on hold and just have some fun playing his guitar.
He never stated the nature of his "medical issue" and I had no idea as to the gravity of his situation. I shortly after received my Ultra, it's the red swirly one that's still shown on his homepage, and really love it! Thanks Bob, in just a few distant encounters I got to see why so many people thinks so highly of you and love you. Rest in Peace. Bill

I played a gig a few years back and the last tune was this swampy, crawly minor groove in the half-step down Eb. My part was to take the thing out and when the time was right and the Mojo Vibe was unleashed it was as if that room tuned into a pulsating tilt-a-whirl.
Every time that little light pulsated it was Mojo, Mojo, Mojo...
For 16 bars, Bob Sweet turned that room around and inside out.
When he was done everyone was like... dam....

Never met Bob or spoke with him, but when I had a question about an effect, there he was on TGP to offer some advice/opinion. Even if it netted him no revenue. He did what he could for you. That is the sign of a selfless, giving person. Probably what got him the reputation he had on TGP and in his life. This thread has been a great outpouring of condolensces and respect for him. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and he is now in a more peaceful place with no suffering. Lost my father-in-law a month ago from the same illness and conversed with Bob about that hoping that things would improve for him. He was still answering TGP posts for me up until a few weeks before he passed. He was still trying to help others with their little problems right to the end. That's the way I'll always remember this great contributor to the music world and to humanity. Thanks for everything, Bob.
