As some of you may or may not know, I work in the credit card industry.

So imagine my surprise when I get a call from my VISA tonite.
They called to inquire on a few transactions.

I go to my desk and physically pull out the card they think was used today, in Florida!

Get into it a bit deeper, and they show the card as being SWIPED!!!! :messedup

Now, I'm going to find out exactly how that came to be.
My wife was in Florida, maybe a month or so ago. But on that trip she did not even take that CC with her.

Crazy.

Identity theft sucks. It's a real pain to get everything squared away, takes a lot of your time.

Cloning credit cards is a big deal. The waiter at a restaurant takes your card when you pay for your meal and swipes it through a special card-cloning machine. All the info on the strip can then be easily copied onto a blank card, than they sign the back with their signature and voila! One perfect copy of your card with their signature on it.

Well, the oddity is, that they told me the card that was used was the one with my wife's name on it. Which is here in my desk, but also, never went anywhere.

I'm thinking the only explanation is that they have that information wrong, and it was the card with my name on it. That card I can't find, and since the wife is out of town, I don't know if she has it or not.

ANYWAY, they contacted me, which is a THUMBS-UP, and closed the account, with replacement cards on the way.
The wife WAS in FL, during the middle of Sept, so either the card was copied, or they stole the card with my name on it, from my wife. I'll find out when she gets here Weds.

Of course closing the account means I can't view the transactions online right now, until the new card arrives. And we go paperless on our statements. When the new card arrives, and I get set-up, I'll be able to view how many transactions will need to be disputed. They called about a couple small transactions done at gas stations today.

Your wife hooked up with some random guy when she went to Florida a few months ago, now she's run out on you without telling you and she's taken your credit card to pay for all her travelling expenses to get back with her secret lover. The gas station swipes are her stopping for gas on the way to her secret rendevous :D

Can't you just call her and ask her if she has the card? :)

Well, this was all last nite, she was at some opening ceremonies for a conference and whatnot. Couldn't get in touch with her.
She forgot to look for the card, so she will a bit later today.
I'm still not sure I would have sent her on a biz trip with the card that had my name on it.

Either way - fraud sucks. Discover is good. :)
