Now we have a rain delay in the world series (after the Rays tied it up)????
I was telling my wife for innings the game should have been stopped (and I have no interest in who wins the game).
Did you see the boxing match on Showtime Friday in Montreal (worst boxing ref in years).
I heard (but did not see) the UFC match on Saturday was bad (staged).
The Falcons/Eagles game had a TERRIBLE call on the muffed punt (that could not be reviewed because they were out of timeouts).
I'm beside myself, but my wife is telling me I sound like a conspiracy theorist (which I'm usually not).
Is it all rigged, or just a bad week for sports???

I don't think the series is rigged, but there has been some really bad calls on both sides.

But doesn't it seem that the network is calling the rain delay as opposed to the umpires (at least in this game??)

That home plate umpire has really sucked tonight. Terrible strike zone.
I figured they'd stop play as soon as the Rays scored because if they did it with the Phillies up, the game could have been called with them winning it. That would be a sucky way to win it all.

Good point, but they could have stopped the game innings before...it looks like it will be continued tomorrow.

Why would they stop it innings before?

I turned it on well after the start, but I don't think I've ever seen so much rain on an infield and a game still in progress.

They didn't need to stop it earlier, but once they got past a certain point if they suspended play and couldn't restart it tonight, the team in the lead would have been given the win. Not a good way to finish the season.
And of course they're waiting until 8 tomorrow night for the restart.. I hate all these late ass games.

Yeah, I think they made the right decision.

Boxing is often fixed. The major team sports are not. It would require a conspiracy involving a lot of people. Do you think you could get 100 people to keep a secret? No.

It really would have sucked for MLB to have the series end with a game called due to rain, and really they would have stayed there for hours trying to play it--perhaps Philly would have been declared the winner hours after everyone had gone to sleep. I don't know what they would have done it the Rays hadn't scored, but I'm sure they were relieved when they did. And as an interested fan but not pulling for one team over the other, I was too.

No but umpires hold grudges against players who dare doubt their expertise. Punishment calls quickly follow and ultimately games are sometimes lost.

The plate umpires have been calling strikes for the Phillies that the Rays aren't getting the whole series. It's frustrating to watch. This is evident on the replays with the zone graphic. FWIW, I don't care which team wins the series.
Terrell Suggs hit to Collins' head was an amazingly poor call and impacted the outcome of the game. This week, Ray Lewis stopped a TD vs. Raiders. Called "down" on the field. Reviewed - TD??? I watched the play 5 times. There was no irrefutable evidence. Not saying the refs have it out for the Ravens (or the umpires for the Rays ). Just seems bad call happen for or against some teams moreso than others.

i've said for years, starting these games so late is bad. it's a necessary evil however because of the west coast. but it's bad for the game on the east coast. young kids don't get to stay up until one or two in the morning to see their baseball heroes play in a championship. that's bad for the game. but it's all good for corporate America as they can continue to pound ads down our throats that we really don't care about. the super bowl is the biggest joke. they have ALL DAY Sunday to schedule the game, but they do it at night. they should think about the future fans a little more. i remember coming home from school in 1967 and the series was over. the game started at 1:00pm on a weekday.

That is usually the case, but incorrect in this one. If the game was stopped, regardless of who was winning or tied, Bud Selig said the game would have been continued at a later date. A winner would not be decided by weather, unlike in the regular season. MLB would NEVER have let the World Series end due to a rain delay.

Personally I think they got lucky that the Rays tied it up. If they called it at the end of the 5th with the Phillies ahead that would have been a delicate mess regardless of Selig saying afterwards that they'd play it out regardless. He caught a break, they have to play it now. YMMV.

Why don't they just play through the rain in baseball like they do in football? Are they a bunch of delicate girlie men or something? Personally, I think baseball should be played in the driving snow. The little flowers need to man up more than a little bit.
