The Titans just won. Will the Colts make the playoffs??
Prediction, the Packers will beat the Titans next week.:hide
It would be nice if somebody would bring them down a notch.
That said...congrats to a really good Titans team.
I watched the game last night, hoping against hope that the Colts would pull off the upset.
Didnt happen...
Kerry Collins is getting it done...he's got savvy, still has skills...and most of all he has an almost impenetrable O-line. I dont think Freeney even harrassed him once all night. At least we shut down the running game a bit. The passing game, well that's another story. Too bad we still dont have Nick Harper, as our secondary is a definite Achilles heel. Tennessee mostly got what they needed every time in the air. And they have a great kicker.
Now for the Colts...:(
Peyton has some problems with that knee, and I think it's affecting his throwing mechanics. The ball wasn't the usual tight spiral all night long...and this isnt the first game this season that I've seen that.
He may not be putting full weight on the leg, or his follow through isnt complete. SOMETHING is happening that is affecting his throw. He just doesnt get the mustard on the long ball...and that cost us at least 2 touchdowns. And his receivers are trying to compensate...and are a bit slow in getting in sync with him. Thank God we have a running game...Simpson and Rhodes both showed me something last night against that formidable Defense of Tennessee. Well...the good news is...Sanders and Addai are back next week...and they NEED to be. Hopefully Peyton will get his knee back, and his form will improve. And maybe his long ball will too. (fingers crossed)
Are we done for the season?
NO.
GO COLTS!!

So you are telling me that if the Colts win out, a 12-4 colts team DOESN'T make the playoffs?

I certainly wouldn't count them out yet......not by a long shot.

Ask me about the Lions.....or the Bengals......or the Chiefs........I'll be able to give you a better answer.

It was right about this time last year when two NFL teams went to England to play the 'Europe' game...those two teams were the NY Giants and the winless Miami Dolphins. Those two teams played what is argueably THE ugliest, most poorly played NFL game in 25 years...maybe ever. The Giants BARELY WON! It was an abortion of American football and I'm surprised England let the NFL come back this year (and thankfully the Chargers/Saints delivered an action-packed, skill-filled game).
We all know what happened with the Giants. It's never over until it's over. Teams get hot...then cool off (Patriots last year)...other teams struggle to make the playoffs but find new life when they do (Giants). So I'm not penciling the Titans in nor counting the Colts out.

I don't get this one. At what point did the Patriots "cool off" last year? In the Super Bowl? The 1 in the 18-1 season? So, can we deduce from this that every team that is not the SB champ "cooled off" during the season?
I am a Giants fan, but just don't subscribe to a team "cooling off" because they lose the last game of the season. By 3 points.:jo

There are a ton of teams with 4 and 3 or 3 and 4 records who could be a wild card playoff team. It's too early to count the Colts out yet, except maybe for the division title...

Pretty simple if you look at the numbers. They blew everyone off the field early in the season and seemed to score 50 every week. At the end of the season they were squeaking by the Eagles, Giants...perhaps others I'm forgetting. They won their other two playoff games but not by a big margin...then lost the SB. That's pretty much the definition of 'cooling off'.
:jo
I'm not sure it's possible for the Lions to 'cool off' any further...so no you can't deduce that every non-SB winner 'cooled off'. Other teams started so frigid that even though they warmed right up...it still wasn't enough. Maybe 'deduction' isn't your strong suit?
Honestly, only the Bengals are out of it this early in the season.

Maybe 'deduction' isn't your strong suit?
Maybe you'd like to wager on that? Place your own "deduction" up against it? Kind of like the weak arguments you have posted on THIS subject? They scored "50" exactly twice in the season...week 8 and week 11. Week 9, the one game between the two games they scored 50+, they won by 4. Maybe that one didn't count. After week 11, the last 5 games, when they were allegedly "squeaking by", their margins of victory were 3, 3, 21, 10, 21, 3. Their playoff wins were by 11 and 9. I suppose those are not "big" margins, considering these are playoff games.
The New York Giants, the team who you claim "found new life", won their playoff games by 10, 4 and 3. Smoking hot.
I recommend "looking at the numbers" yourself, if this is the criteria you are using to make your point.
Maybe we could throw in comprehension for extra credit, as it should be obvious I was talking about the team in the Super Bowl that didn't win it....not the teams who didn't get close enough to even smell it.

I remember when the Houston Oilers were 0-3 in 1992, and everyone thought their season was DOA - but then they proceeded to win 12 in a row. Granted, the Colts don't have Buddy Ryan's "46" defense in place like the Oilers did, but nonetheless - the Colts are a better team overall, IMO...
Hell no, you can't count them out yet...

Despite all my hopes and dreams and casting of pox upon the Colts organization for all time, I'm afraid it's a bit too early to count them out. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I already have mge. I watched the season...the Pats cooled off...the Giants got hot. That's just the way it happened...sorry. The Patriots were unstoppable early in the season...the Giants were pitiful at early points in the season. If you can't see that then maybe stick to soccer.
EDIT: OK...you need numbers:
Total points scored (Patriots 2008):
First half of season - 331 (avg 41 pts/game)
Second half of season - 258 (avg 32 pts/game)
Playoffs (games won only) - 52 (avg 26 pts/game)
Margin of victory:
First half of season - 208 total (26 per game avg)
Second half of season - 121 total (15 per game avg)
Playoffs (games won only) - 18 total (9 per game avg)

OK, here's thier schedule. After looking at this, it's definitly too early to count them out.
NE
Pittsburg
Houston
The Bolts
The Browns
The Bengals
Detroit
Jacksonville
I agree that Manning doesn't seem quite right yet but looking at that schedule they should be able to win at least half of those games the way things look now.
Not done YET!!!!
GO COLTS!!!
