How do you turn off notifications in Youtube?

On my Youtube account I constantly get messages saying someone replied to a comment I posted, even if it was months and months ago, and I've had direct messages that have been quite volatile in nature. Is there any way to prevent anyone from sending me private messages and also to turn off notifications that someone replied to a comment I made? ...Thanks

I think you can take care of this from My Account > Account > Email Options section. Just click off the options that you don't want and save the settings.

I also know there is a way to block someone from messaging you if you're having problems with a specific person. When you open the message, there's a 'Block User' option on the lower right hand corner of the message.
