View Full Version : Parts-O-Tele: should extended fretboard be flush to the body?

The last project guitar I built had a one-piece maple neck. This one is a Warmoth 22-fret neck so the fretboard hangs over the neck itself by about 3/8". Should that fretboard be flush to the body? Right now the neck fits snug and flat in the pocket, but the fretboard end is about 1/8" above the body. The body is a Musikraft-made Tele (a 3 lb Korina body! Just amazing) so I would think they would know their specs...

I have finally ordered my bridge, so obviously will check how the neck, body and bridge fit together in terms of action and let that be my guide. But, in general, when you have a bit of fretboard overhang on a Tele build, do you try to get it to be flush?

Thanks!

The fretboard overhang must rest above the body so the pickgaurd can fit underneath it. My Warmoth pro neck fit just perfect. The overhang rests just on the top of the pickgaurd when the neck is screwed down tight.

It depends on whether or not you are going to use a pickguard. The overhang generally sits right on top of the pickguard. If you are going "guard-less", that's probably why there is a gap there. The overhang is made to sit right on top of the guard.
