I have a challenge to my fellow luthiers and guitar builders:
www.guitarsforvets.org (http://www.guitarsforvets.org) is a group who is giving guitars to our veterans. I pledge to build and donate one guitar - and I challenge you all to do the same. This is a terriffic way for us to say "thank you" to the people who have sacrificed so that we can play our guitars in freedom.
jlindner@guitarsforvets.org is the man you need to email if you're interested.

I hope you get some other builders on board.
For the past three years I have built a guitar to be raffled in aid the Drake Music Project here in the UK

This was this years prize, a very happy (and talented) sixteen year old was the eventual winner this last weekend.

I've enjoyed supporting this worthwhile cause and raising awareness amongst able bodied guitarists at the same time.
Good luck with your challenge.

I'm really happy to see things like this. Most of us here have lots of guitars, amps, pedals, etc...
and yet there are kids who want one and simply can't afford one. There are guys coming home with no legs...and I think that this would be a great way to help them heal.
I don't know about you guys, but if it wasn't for my guitar I'd be locked up in the looney bin.

wow, that's one killer organization! My brother was in Baghdad for a year, and I know things like this definitely help tremendously when our troops come home. I'm going to have to figure out what to build for them. thanks for the heads up, KingBee.

Outstanding idea!
I have already sent two TCM's to a unit in Afghanistan. I had planned to travel there to lecture/jam...but that idea was shot down by the "powers that be".
Good for you, that you are promoting this idea.

We can do that......or just go for it. Only reason I say just go for it instead of a "theme" is it limits the imagination and keeps ya in a box. I'm thinking Candy Metal flake or something spankin'. :dude

I pledged to do a Marine Corps Guitar. People want build pics. Here is the Custom Neck Plate done by my good friend Greg Cartmell.
Pictures dont do it justice. It is fabricated from steel, and is itself a weapon of opportunity!!!
More to come.......
