Ok gang....
Over the past couple of years, my kid and I have thought a lot about an easy way to record without buying twenty high-end Microphones, Pre-Amps, Mixing-Boards, DAT units, etc.......
He goes to Berklee where there are a lot of MPE Majors that own all of that stuff and he has a friend that he pays 10 bucks and hour to set-up and record even when they just practice and fool around in an ensemble room in the evening.

However, there are many times that they play and simply use a cheesy Mic plugged straight into one of their Laptops.

A couple of weeks ago he bought an Olympus LS-10 hand-held recorder (as shown).
You can record different formats, even down to simple MP3's and plug it into Laptop and Drag the music into a Music Program to chop-up, etc.

Bottom line is....this thing is SOOOO present and the quality is WAY beyond ANYTHING we anticipated it to be!
Simply put it on a stool and push record.
We are STUNNED at how good the quality is....all for $400.00

While we were at NAMM, we looked at other units such as the SONY....but many were larger and won't fit in a shirt pocket.

If you took it to a concert, or simply wanted to take it to one of your own Gigs......it will produce better sounding Bootleg Concert Recordings than you could ever ask for.

Anyway....check it out...this might be a perfect TEN in gear reviews.

I'm actually in the market for one of these right now, I need a portable recorder that can record acoustic stuff as well as some loud blues jams at reasonable quality.

You'd be surprised at how good this is and will do what you want better than you'd expect.
I know a lot of guys buy the Zoom units, but I've always had good luck with Olympus Products. Plus we like the size of it a lot!
The Sony unit is $1,999.00 and while I'm sure it's nice, because we checked it out at NAMM.....It's also a bit large and doesn't fit a shirt pock that well....so I don't think it's worth the expense since this does such a nice job.
I'll prob buy a spare!

At NAMM last January, me and my favorite dealer saw those and flipped. He picked them up right away, and I got mine as soon as they started shipping.

Not only do I use it to record concerts, and all of my guitar lessons, but I use it for all of my meetings and seminars that I have to attend at work.

Quality is great, plenty of recording time with the built in memory (I haven't needed to use an additional card yet, and was well worth the money for me.

Plus, it's super easy to use.

the sound quality of these things at loud music venues is unreal.

Has anyone here actually used both this and a Zoom H4? Care to compare / contrast the models and their sound?

Thanks, I'm going to check one out.
I spent a long time last year trying to find something just like this but all fell a little short on features.

I have been heming and hawing about getting some kind of recording device just to work on songs, and hear what I "Really" sound like.
Anyway, I just looked on Ebay and you can get these brand new in the box for $299/free shipping.
I wonder what kind of deal a guy could get on one of these in Jan/Feb, when the visa bill shows up, and the tax man is rapidly approaching...
Several of you guys have already stated that the sound quality is very good, but I was thinking that what I really wanted was something that had multi-track recording capability, and in a similar sized package.
Does this, or is there something else that I "Might" look into?
P.S. Does anyone have any confimed Youtube recordings made with this to check out?
Thanks. And this does look like a pretty cool little device.

So I just decided to go ahead and buy one because my 10% coupon from Ebay runs out today and I might as well use it (got it for $275). I'm really hoping this thing lives up to the hype.
