Damn. I wish that I could sing.
Damn.
I think that if by some stretch of the imagination I could sing... and sing really really well... I'd still feel totally outclassed by that.
Not my genre, but still... watching that makes you miss the guy.

But blues is just so 1, 4, 5, 12 bar, pentatonic, in the box, boring............................................ .........................not. ;)
And that was blues as about as straight as you can get (with a little jazz added for flavoring).

For those of us at work, where youtube is blocked by idiotic filters, what is it?

Sammy Davis Jr singing I Can't Get Started backed by a much younger Late Night Band. Classic Sammy, scatting along with lit cigarette in hand.
Vid said probably his last tv performance. Sammy g ets overlooked a bunch because of who he hung out with the Rat Pack, but he was such a talent.
Pretty cool because both Paul and Anton both had hair.

What mic is he using?
It's just an SM58. It looks weird because the windscreen is a little mis-shaped and the logo strip has been removed for TV.
Sammy was great.
I'm a fan of the Rat Pack...with Frank being numero uno.
How cool would it have been to catch them at the Sands around '65?
Quincy leading the band and Frank leading the pack.
The epitome of cool and crooning.

I grew up visiting my Grandmother here in Miami Beach and Frank, Sammy, Ella, Dean, Count Basie and all the other greats played at the Fountain Bleu or the Doral or any of the great old hotels on the strip and she made sure we saw them all. From as young as ten or so until I was seventeen or eighteen it might not have been "my" music but I sure knew I was seeing great entertainers.
