My Prosonic has a ripping sound when the chassis is tight in the 2-10" combo case.
Disappears when the chassis is loosened.
Any guesses what it could be.

Probably a piece of wood or covering that is vibrating under pressure. Those are a pain to track down. If you can, get a second person to help find it while you are playing, or the other way around. Be careful poking around, but put pressure in the area of where the ripping sound is coming from and see if you can make it go away. If so, then figure out what it is and secure it (usually some sort of glue).

Thanks SatelliteAmps,

I went over the case with a fine tooth comb. Glued some of the loose tolex down, didn't find any structural problems, no loose screws.
Replaced the amp back into the case. Hand tightened the chassis strap screws... ripping noise still there.
Loosened the chassis strap screws about four to five full turns... problem gone.

Took the amp to a gig. Used it all night, turned it up. Sounded as good as it gets.

Maybe this is an idiosyncracy of this one amp.
I don't plan on doing a rewiring job or selling the amp.
It sounds wonderful, it's just going to be loose in it's case untill I find some way to isolate the problem. Maybe going the head & cabinet route is the ticket. It's a green lizard skin model with cream knobs. Looks great under the lights.

Kudos to you on some great looking and sounding amps.
Best regards,

DanD

I would think it is just that particular amp, rather than a problem with all of them.

Thanks for the nice compliments.

I have the same problem... happens on any F note. Also found my lamp was reverberating as well so i tried it in another room... same thing. Let me know if you figure it out lol I'm thinking its the housing for the reverb coils so i'm going to pull it all apart and remove what isnt important and see if its still doing it.

He found the answer to his. Almost always with an F note, it means a rattle in the cabient somewhere. It's a pain to track down, but it can be done. A second person helps a lot when looking (one to play, the other to feel around to find the vibration.)
