View Full Version : Speaking of remastering, anyone know what's up with remastering The Beatles?

It was supposed to be out last Christmas. Now it's almost been a full year and not a word. Does anyone know what's going on?
I'm not a "remastering nut" but I remember how much clearer I could hear the guitar tones on the LOVE CD and I want more of that!

It's kind of on the backburner, but still going forward slowly but surely.
On another board, someone got the opportunity to listen to some of the remasters and he (a curmudgeony audiophile) said it was like listening to the band playing right there in the room!
I hope they get it done, I REALLY need an outlet or my money.... yeah right....

Back burner!!!
Don't they realize just how badly I want this?? I'm seriously jealous of that "curmudgeony audiophile" that got to hear few tracks.
I feel like I need to call somebody and ask them to please finish it up!!

Any slower and I'll be too dead to care....
They should just release the albums as they are completed. It would be a lot easier on my wallet.

No kidding, but it won't happen.
Apple Record and EMI are the worse when it comes to releasing and re-releasing... nothing takes less than 5 times as long as it should.

There are threads several miles long over at Steve Hoffman audio forum on this very topic.
There have been rumors, rumors, and more rumors, for years, and I am not talking about a fine Fleetwood Mac album (which is spelled, rumours at any rate).
Recently, it seems that the editors at MOJO magazine were invited to an exclusive listening party to hear the remastered White album. As you might suspect, this experience is described in almost religious terms . . . the veil was lifted off and the music was heard in its original grandeur.
I'm one of those who have held off buying the Beatles (I have only 1 of their CDs, though a big fan), waiting for the remasters . . .
At this point, I think it is "let's wait and see what happens in 2009." Predictions are difficult, especially when they involve the future.

Well, so far there have been two mentions of people that have actually heard the remastered versions. It's hopeful to know that there's a good chance that at least they do exist. Knowing that it does exist but I can't have it..........well, that's almost worse than not knowing what's going on.

Remastered, or remixed?
Love was definitely remixed, heh. But remastered as well and in DVD-A it really shows off, doesn't it? Just shows the potential of the Beatles in Hi-Def.
I went to a Hoffman lecture and he popped in a redbook (normal CD) remaster that he did for fun, of the Beatles' "On Behalf of Mr. Kite" taken from the original Tape Masters.
I swear I overdosed right there. The sound quality and genius of that track were overwhelming, physically overwhelming. And that's not even my favorite track! I was in awe.
So whenever the Beatles get off their arse to release their crap properly, man it's GOING TO ROCK.

Capitol tends to unload Beatles stuff at Xmas; maybe there's hope in the next month? I suspect we would've heard by now, but ... -E

Probably too late for 2008 Xmas. Certainly there would be some advanced advertising, and I think we are already too close to Xmas.
I guess hope springs eternal--I am cautiously hoping to see Beatles' remasters in 2009, or 2010, or whenever. They will never hurry a project like this, but physical media, such as CD, are no longer the dominant mass media (which is now mp3). But there are plenty of folks who grew up with and still enjoy CDs. I do.

They aren't proper substitutes, but many of the Purple Chick bootleg remasters are fantastic. Their stereo mix of Revolver gets me high.

The Purple Chick Beatles sets are not remastered. They are Mono and Stereo LP rips most often by "Dr. Ebbetts," from what he considered the best official LP releases, usually the EMI "Blue Box" set. The Purple Chick "Deluxe Sets" also include tracks from officially released CDs where those are interesting/different. Also, they include unreleased alternate mixes and work tracks as done by the Beatles, many of which eventually appeared on the Anthology series.
I wonder what high definition format(s) the upcoming remasters will be released in?
