I feel on top of the world at the moment. Just finished my first ever real amp project, which was to convert an old Wilsic Sound (Miles Platting ) V-50 into a tube -rectified 2204.
The Wilsic V-50 is a two channel, PA-type, old English amp, with 3 x 12ax7, 2xEL34 and GZ34 rectification.
I basically put a 2204 pre-amp onto the front of the 2xEL34 power amp that was already there.
i also put a simple "interupt" FX loop inbetween the master vol and the PI (using two "spare" old input jacks as the send and return).
After a bit of cursing and a couple of mistakes, I now have it all working 100% perfect .... I can't believe it.
It sounds just fantastic .. easily as good as my Ceriatone 2204 and better than a '78 2204 I had earlier this year.
It has a very low noise floor, which in itself is a miracle, as I designed the layout as I went along.
the whole look is a bit of a dog's breakfast, as it is true PTP wired, and I am pretty much a rookie with a soldering iron.
Thanks go to all on this forum who share their knowledge so freely and helped me feel confident enough to have a go at this.
Anyway, here's some pics. I just had to share my success. Need to decide on my next project though. This is addictive !
