Pump up the volume

The playing volume for my guitar during a gig seems to be an art form. If I am too loud I drown out the singer and other instruments. If I am too low it is difficult to hear what I am playing. On top of that when I am soloing the volume needs to be up a bit but not too much. I use an RC Booster for that but it can be difficult to raise the volume just right. Perhaps a volume pedal is the answer?

I use a volume pedal, post OD, but with a range that goes from off to louder than the band so I have room to boost quiet passages and have volume swells be prominent, adjusting to the appropriate level at a given moment is still a challenge, maybe more so, as it is another thing to futz with.
