I heard, at some time in the past - in hazy conversation - that an album was released that consisted of nothing but versions of Red House from various Hendrix shows (or a mixture of live and studio versions, etc.).
That's all the info I can remember about it. I could probably download versions from iTunes and make my own compilation, but was there ever an "official" (i.e. Hendrix sanctioned, or company sanctioned) release of such an album?

There's also a tab book that went with it.

Listened to it for the first time in about 15 years this morning. There really are some stellar versions of Red House on it.

Yea, I still have that. About 7 versions, 6 are live. That's a must for any fan of Hendrix; really shows the improvisational side of Hendrix over a standard 12 bar blues format. It's TIMELESS!

While we're on the topic of OOP Hendrix, the Stages (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stages_(Jimi_Hendrix_album)) box set is worth tracking down (hint...torrent).

Stages is good. What was the other one? like 8 discs of radio programming - lots of commentary... (edit: 51st Anniversary) http://theultimatebootlegexperience.blogspot.com/2008/05/jimi-hendrix-51st-anniversary-story-of.html
I never got the Red House book or CD. I do remember looking through bins of it at the old Maxwell Street sale in Chicago growing up though. Never did find it. (of all the places to look, I know,,, I know...)

Sub-thread topic: favourite versions of Red House. My favourite is the version off the original UK release of Are You Experienced. The US version was different.
That has the nice liquid guitar sound, fabulous fluid playing, way cool licks and the bass is reputedly a Hofner 6-string guitar with the treble turned off.
When I saw Tommy Shannon with Stevie RV he played a slow blues that way on his bass - double stops way up high on the neck
I found a great alternate take of this version on a late vinyl issue of Hendrix out-takes. It's the same recording set-up, a different take, but with the echo on the guitar track. Not quite as good as the first but a whole slew of different Hendrix blues licks.

I still have the original Swingin' Pig CD's for this one.

So the red house deal is out of print?
Have they been re-released together, or on box sets, or iTunes, etc.?

Not that I'm aware of. I did send you a PM regarding it though.
