Congratulations! Just voted, there was a rather large list of artists that are being weeded down to 5 nominees per category. The good news is that the list of Jazz artists was rather small relative to pop, rock, country so your chances are decent to become a nominee. Not sure if you would get a grammy if it won, but it would be nice to be on an album that gets one. I know in some categories, the engineers, producers, mastering engineers get an award, not sure about musicians.

Joe I don't understand your question. When someone has a strong emotional
response to one of my paintings or one of my tunes,I just let it flow and enjoy the connection.Maybe it means that a project you participated in has reached out and grabbed some folks by their yin yangs and actually got their
Distracted consumerist minds involved in actually listening. With attention.
It surely means recognition for achieving something "special".

It certainly deserves congratulations! Enjoy and don't analyze till you take the fun out of the moment.

Not sure if you would get a grammy if it won,

If you are an official member of the band, and from the website I saw it certainly sounds like you are since you are listed in the initial lineup and not the special guests, I would think you would get a Grammy. Congratulations.

Using my synth as an envelope pad behind my Godin Nylon String chords ...

Very cool Joe. I work for the The Recording Academy and most of the work is being done this weekend to determine eligibility for the final nominations list.

The official nominations will be announced on December 3. There's actually going to be a prime-time television special on CBS to highlight some of the nominations as well as promote the opening of the new GRAMMY Museum at LA Live. The entire nominations list will go up on grammy.com after the television special.

Good Luck!

Hey Paul ... I could just imagine how many Grammy considerations

Hi Joseph, congratulations and thanks for your kind words !!!

just being on the long list is exciting, isn't it ?!?
In which category are you guys listed ?

Our band has been very fortunate winning 2 Grammies for the Brecker Brothers recording in 2006 and another one this year for the Patti Austin recording. Right now we're on the long list for 'Best Large Jazz Ensemble Recording' with Maceo's 'Roots'n'Grooves' (Heads Up) and Joe Lovano's 'Symphonica' (Blue Note) among some other related entries... I'm featured as a soloist on both cd's, so it's
great...

take care, paul

Thumb's way up hoping for the Maceo "Roots'n'Grooves or the Lovano project to win Paul ...

It's a great CD ... (Paul, is there going to be a DVD of this by chance...?)

Going to have to pick up the Patty Austin and Lovano ones too ...

The Brecker Brother's is a masterpiece folk ...
Have watched Paul on the DVD many times ....

Paul's band has actually won 2 grammies already,
and are on the long list for two more ....

Please check Paul's work out when you get a chance ... it's well worth the effort.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, and to answer your question Paul, we are listed under contemporary jazz ...
Though I think what we're doing on the CD is not really all that jazzy
More of jazzy mood making ... :-)

Here's I'm playing a funky rhythm on my Godin Nylon string...
Then overdubbed very simple lines using a flute sound with the guitar synth:

There's one tune that the flute guy (Ronnie Ray)
plays guitar on because I couldn't make it to a last minute session..

Just want to state up front ... that ain't me babe...
