View Full Version : Is there a reason why the Boss GT6 sounds so good into an amp?

I have seen 3 groups where the guitar player used a GT6 into a decent tube amp and got great clean and gain tones.

I have never really used that unit, so is there some reason it sounds so good into a tube amp? Does it have some sort of pedal mode? or is its output modes superior? Never been so fooled by a multi-fx unit where it sounded so robust that I thought it was analog pedals.

Anyone care to comment or explain?:band

Rather interested in this too. Something about the 6 that I don't hear even out of the 10. The 6's are selling for a dime a dozen too. I still don't know why I don't have one.

I have a Gt-8 which is a big step up from the old Gt-6. If you think the Gt-6 sounds good try the new GT-10. Chalk and cheese.

They're easily the best mid priced MFX's and they sound decent into tube amps if you know how to tweak them to get good tones. But they're a long learning curve and not user friendly.

It's taken 2 years to learn how to tweak em and I've got good patches but it's not as good as my analog pedal board. If you had an analog pedal board full of Boss pedals it would sound roughly equal, but not if you have top quality analog pedals.

Check out www.BossGTcentral.com (http://www.BossGTcentral.com) if you wanna learn more about them.

Is there a difference when it comes to using a GT6 direct into an amp? Is it a better output?

Wow, this is something that peeked my interest. I had a GT-6 for many years, and I never really realized how weak it was until I started playing in a band. To me, all of the distortions sounded fake and digital, as well as the amp models.

As a result, I sold it because no matter what, it always messed with my sound.

I used the Gt-6 going into fenders and such, using light overdrive, and I got some really nice results. Actually listening to some of my past live recordings, I was surprised at how well it sounded.

The Gt-6 did not sound good with lots of distortion or the heavier drive sounds and models, but for light drive, I thought it worked very well. some decent and usable efx, and overall programmable.

I would take a look at the newer model however, but I always thought Boss did a nice job with thier floorboards.

I used to play with a guy who used a GT6 into a SS Fender 100W something. He played a lot of Vai stuff and got great tone out of his setup. We played a church gig for a while and the flexibility was really evident in low volume situations.

It's simple. Boss makes good stuff. Not great, in every case. A few real gems... But, across the board, the stuff works.

Same here. In my bedroom I loved it, and then it just disappeared in a band setting.

But if people are getting good tones out of 'em, rock on!

It also depends on what your plugged into. i've used several multi's through alot of different amps. Some just work better. You get the right amp and the right setting in the pedal and several lower cost mult's sound pretty good. It;s in the matching and the tweak time.

I hate digital but I jammed once with a very mediocre guitarist who was using one of those with a Fender and he had this GREAT overdrive tone.

I'm sure it was 100% accidental but he sounded great at times with that thing.

I had a GT8 and I could not get a tone I liked out of it unless I shut off the cab sims and ran strait into the F/X return jack of a decent tube amp. The cab sims made it sound fake. I recently was having that battle of wanting to get something digital and making myself like it. Fortunately I came to my senses and ordered some analog OD's and a Budda wah. I don't see myself going digital unless I just get too old to care about tone.

They have something called the 4 cable method that basically allowed u to use the tube amp's gain and clean channels..and use the gt-6 as an accessory....i think that might be the reason...it lies more to do with the amp and the fact that the gt-6 does not overshadow the amp's goodness...;)...as for just putting the gt-6 directly in front of the amp....i never got good results with that
