View Full Version : Brad Paisley and Keith Urban on CMA awards tonight

Just a reminder that they will be on tv tonight, Brad hosts and Keith will play his new single "sweet thing" and from the rehearsal pictures i've seen (unfortunately can't post) I see no sign of any 65Amps on Keith's stage. Same goes for the clips from his new Live DVD that came out yesterday. Looks like Marshall's and Hiwatt's, at least the cab's.
Anyway, it should be good. Keith's tone is always a favorite for me.
Not sure if Paisley will play, but I'm assuming he will, and I'm not sure if They'll perform their duet.

I hope Paisley plays. I haven't stopped listening to his new cd since I bought it last week. I was in the 3rd row of his concert in NH in September and... uh... WOW.

They played well but I thought both had very thin tone.
Keith couldn't hang with Tommy Emanuel (who can) but he can stay right with Brad.

Wow, so they went and botched entertainer of the year again, and gave it to Kenny Chesney, a guy who a) can't play, and b) who's songs sound all the same
But I guess someone like Keith Urban, who tours for over a year straight playing most city's 2 nights in a row to sold our arenas, has to entertain more, perhaps his band isn't tight enough.
What a slap in the face, aww, at least the CMA's stayed consistent.

Hank III on the CMA's would be WONDERFUL!!!! Yes he is REAL country, not that poppy, sappy, crap with guys dressed up like Abercrombie models and girls wearing next to nothing, singing pop songs.
Real country has TWANG to the guitars, not distorted Les Pauls raging about, NOT, songs about some island, wearing a curled up cowboy hat. Real country has a MELODY, FIDDLES, PEDAL STEEL,!!!! Its a great money making industry these days and that's about it, nothing of much substance is coming from Nashville.
Give me my Merle, Hank III, Dale Watson, Buck Owens, Dwight Yoakam, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Hank Sr., Junior Brown, Red Simpson, Bob Wills, Moot Davis, etc.
That's some real country. I'm so thankful for guys like Hank III, Junior Brown, Dwight Yoakam, Moot Davis and Dale Watson for carrying on this tradition of real country music.
And how long will it take for the Grand Ole Opry to recognize Hank Sr.??? Really what needs to happen? That's one of the biggest screwings ever as far as I'm concerned.

Isn't country music great? It's not contrived or commercial at all and it certainly isn't trying to sell to the lowest common denominator nor do they use nationalism and patriotism to sell product. After looking closer, the head looks to me like it's a Monterey. As it has white knobs and is smaller than the cab, whereas the London and Soho are different. As well the Royal Albert has less knobs.
BTW, your DC-30 sounded great aswell, it's hard to tell how much of the "tone" was the 65amps or the two working together. Best sounding setup of the night IMO.

Thanks for the info!
Ain't gettin more concrete than that.
Their performance last nigh actually prompted me to go down to my local 65amps dealer today just to see what they had in stock (only a Rick Nielson checkerboard tolexed monterey w/4-12 matching cab, which I did not plug in, I just wanted to see one in the flesh :) .) I have been bouncing back and forth between the SoHo and the Monterey for quite some time now.
Slim's sound from last night sure helped.
BTW, on a side note Sam, I was wondering if you knew why Keith Urban has stopped using 65Amps?
It seems like his last few appearances he's had none on stage with him?
I know artists change gear constantly, but I thought he was quite content with his Royal Alberts and quite the endorser for 65?

Chesney seems like he's turned into a bad version of Jimmy Buffet, which really takes some doin'.
It was VERY weird, tho. Not sure what the county crowd thought about it.
Can't imagine what The Wailers dressing room was like... <g>
Well, IMO, it still sucked and the music was still canned. Not sure why KC chose that song and left his band behind. His live cd is great and his band totally kicks. Wonder why he didn't use them...?

Did anyone else have audio issues at the begining of the show? Kind of ruined Brad and Keith. It sounded like it was mostly audience mics and very little direct mix. Some kind of hollow delay sound. Someone messed up big time in the audio truck.

I only saw the beginning duet and the ending 'duo'. :Devil
Watched the beginning on purpose and later in the night channel surfed back to it. After reading this thread I guess I saw the best parts.

The overall television production was terrible. I thought there were audio flubs throughout the entire show. Mikes not turned on, cameras shooting the wrong person. Just a mess...

At one point Paisley did a little acoustic number with some Jerry Reed type noodling. Anyone know what kind of acoustic he was playing. Looked like a thin body nylon string but I didn't have enough time to read the headstock.

I'm typically not one to bag on guys, but.....Kenny Chesney friggin' BLOWS !!! (in more ways than one!)
He is amazingly thriving on being a Jimmy Buffet wannabe & I agree with the other guys that posted that, it's pretty sad !
PLUS he just kills me with his black hat tipped down below his eyes, all 5' nothing trying to look tough & miserable.........................
Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Sugarland (Jen Nettles is SMOKIN' !) all more deserving.

Not sure of the guitar but that wasn't noodling. That was "The Claw."

I'm not sure what model, but the headstock said Gibson, that I know.

That was Brad's rhythm player's amp. He played acoustic on one song and electric through the AC30 on another(it was a rental CC2). The star amps go up front, the sidemen don't.
