Can you get a reasonable blues and classic rock sound out of the pocket pod? I am looking for something portable that I can hook my iPod into to jam along when away from home, or to work out songs when the kids are sleeping.
What about durability? Seems strange to have such tall knobs and I noticed the newer pocket express has shorter knobs.

based on the feature set and general experience with line 6 products I would say you might be better off looking at the boss Micro BR instead. I think the retail price is something like $200, but you get a lot more and a lot nicer base to work with.
It does modeling,
effects,
recording on SD card,
playing MP3s (even while you play on top of them)
and i think there's a computer interface. I've always liked the boss models more than line6 for their playability and tone, especially for midgain stuff.

You'd be surprised how good a pocket pod sounds :D

yup i'm surprised! maybe i don't need an amp now? big step up from the roland microcube.
why is the level coming out of my tascam 424 so low? i've got to crank everything up to about 20 percent distortion to get a decent level out of my stereo. my stereo can get loud! it's biamped and with other sources eg cd and radio will rock the house.
i'm using tape 2 input on a HK receiver that has 100 watts per channel or so...should be loud as hell but it's not.

The Pocket POD is actually pretty robust despite the tall knobs (we had originally looked into using something low profile, but it got voted down in favor of the familiar chromed knobs).

Pocket POD is basically POD 2.0 in a smaller, more portable form factor. The advantage of Pocket POD over the Express is that you can hook the PP up to your computer via USB to create your own, more complex, tones and store them in the user banks. The PP Express doesn't have that ability. You just need the Vyzex editor from the Line 6 web site:
http://www.line6.com/software/index.html <-- Select Pocket Pod from the drop down menu and it should be the top entry. :)
I really like mine for noodling around when I'm on the road. It makes those 3-4 hour, snow induced, waits at the airport much more enjoyable; just sit down with my guitar, headphones, and my Pocket POD. :dude

I love Line 6 products, I think they are excellent, does anyone know if there are any descriptions of the built in presets?
I Use one for teaching .Works great for that. I bought this for my Pocket Pod and IPOD:

The PocketPOD works great and the computer based eidtor is the sh*t! I travel for business and the PocketPOD and guitar goes with. It works great with my Bose Q2 headphones (which I also use for the iPod during flights).
