Given the economics of the coming year my band is considering actively marketing ourselves. We've got a good agent who up till now has kept us pretty busy - usually 75+ gigs a year. But even HE is telling us the outlook for 2009 is grim.
How do you guys market your band? We've got video on youtube and a promo DVD w/ the vid, songlists,testimonials and set lists that we can send to prospective clients. Our website has not been very productive. It has been my observation that the best way is by having a potential client see the band - love the band - and hand them a card. 1 gig often begets another.
I guess my real question is, does your band market direct w/ event planners, caterers, facillities, etc? Even offer to give them a cut should a gig come from them? To this point (25 years) we've pretty much had our agency do all of this for us but it looks like desperate times may call for desperate measures.
