View Full Version : Brad Paisley amps on TV last night..
ok, i know i'm admitting i watched dancing with the stars, but did anyone else see the sweet rigs Brad Paisley was playing last night? Trainwreck head into Dr. Z 2X12 cabs (i'm pretty sure). I was pissing my wife off by slow-motion viewing the shots of the gear... but cool to see gear like that on TV!

Didn't see the TV but BP and his gear are on the cover of Vintage Guitar this month...lengthy article and lots of photos of amps, guitars and pedals. A very good read too...

You should get an even better view of him tonight on the Country Music Awards. I believe he is hosting too, this year? Anyone confirm that?

looked like the other electric player in BP's band was playing one of the new PRS guitars called 'starla' - single cut with a pickguard and a bigsby

I believe BP's amp is called a Z-Wreck. A non-production Dr. Z BP only special. Possible Dr. Z of the (near) future?

Nope, as far as I know Brad owns the only one that has or ever will be made. Mike (Dr. Z) won't make another one without Ken's permission, so there will never be another Z-Wreck.

On the CMA show tonight on Brad's second song they covered the rest of his rig with a black cloth leaving the Trainwreck and the cab under it exposed...interesting!

Was walkin thru the living room while the wife was watching DWTS, and they announced Paisley. Great playing, but I couldn't get over how cheezey the ballroom dancers looked dancing to country music. Just didn't fit at all.

I think he needed the extra riggage to keep up with Keith Urban blasting through a cranked HiWatt. LOL Then did not need it during his ballad.

Anyone notice a Vox AC30 hiding behind that Hiwatt ? Somewhere posted were rehersal pics...where there is NO Hiwatt behind KU, just the Vox...hmmm....did Hiwatt slip in a fast endorsement check and get their amp stage front ? I still don't get leaving the Bad Cat and 64 Amps that KU was using...he's tone with the Bad Cats was killer on a CMT concert from a few years back.

Is it my imagination, or are they purposefully wedging licks from 'Layla' and 'Smoke on the Water' into those solos? It's cool either way!

Keith was using the Hiwatt and WEM cabinet only. The Vox was for Brad's guitarist (Justin, I think) to use on Brad's "Waiting on a Woman".

I think I heard somewhere that it was an homage to music that inspired them to want to play in bands....

Big James Boy,
You are right. The out of print Mud on the Tires DVD(I think it was called-someone borrowed mine and it is gone) was the best Brad tone I ever heard. That and a few late night TV performances.
