Lucky kid.

I'm a bit curious though as the camera person pans over to the cousin who jumps the fence. It seems a little odd ??

She fell into the bushes. The actual cliff was about 4 feet behind her.

IMO (discard as you see fit), this is just another example of the sensationalist media following their directive "if it bleeds, it leads".

the whole thing is just odd, they are publicizing the fact that they are not suing? Can you sue over something that could have been a lot worse if something else happened?

You can sue anyone, anytime for just about any reason.

Will you win? Or will the courts chuck the case? Those are the unknowns...

Or maybe if there's a cliff, keep your kids away from it?

That's just me.

I agree; Train wrecks and fear draw attention on the nightly news. Fortunately, I do not need the press to tell me that the world is a dangerous place, and I hope I would have the foresight to keep my four-year-old away from the precipice.

In addition, I would very much like to see a Trainwreck in my basement studio. That would really deserve some attention.

Aside from the incident, the kid is hilariously cute in the interview.

Me too.. I would never let my kids when they were that age stand near a cliff like that without me being right there to hold them. The stupid parents should have burned that tape.

Is she the child of Elmer Fudd?

By all means, let's make cliffs more kid friendly :jo

Yeah that was on the Oregon coast and the local news beat it to death.

What ever happened to common sense?

Since when do you leave a toddler unattended?

Glad she wasn't hurt but if anybody should pay a penalty it should be the parent.

Just like the suit brought by the woman that burned herself on the McDonald's coffee.

Common sense dictates that if you behave like a moron you will suffer the consequences.

True, that's why I'm ALWAYS suffering!

The only solution is to put 12' high expanded metal fencing along any cliff site with a height greater than 4'. Any reasonable person can see that this is the right fix for our dangerous coastal cliffs.

as a parent .. yeah.. you can clearly see the fence and how easy it is for a little one to slip through, fall through, climb through, etc. it's the parents' job to keep the child from this type of danger. hold her hand for crying out loud.
on a side note to respond to the OP's observation of the camera panning right as the girl tumbles into the bushes, I think it's the person pulling it away from his/her face to see if the girl is ok, and then he/she puts it back to film the rest.

Who's the old timer "shaking" in between the two fems at the end of the newscast? Looks waaay out of place.

that's a good observation, you may be right. i just know if I was filming that, the next shot would be of the ground as i dropped the camera and went after the baby.

Well, you opened a thread entitled "Toddler Nearly Falls off Cliff." Then presumably watched the video.

The media is just a reflection of the public it serves.

I saw this the other day. I personally think that days after one of the most important presidential elections of our time, more relevant things should be on the news.

I saw that on CNN and the anchor was commenting on how bad it was to have such a shoddy fence there. Hard to believe they weren't jumping on the stoopid partents. Then again, that wouldn't have been PC.

Me as well. No way my kid would have been allowed in a situation where that could have happened. I may be a bit overprotective..but protecting my kid is my job, and I'm going to do it well.

I see kids that age running through parking lots all the time without holding an adults hand, and I just shake my head. What are the parents thinking?

I have to agree...the little girl is as cute as a button. I'm glad things didn't turn out worse.

I just finished Clapton's book and he talked about his son falling out of a 53rd floor window.

Ain't it the truth! IMHO the parents should be sued for plain stupidity.

No doubt. If it were me, the child would have stayed behind in the locked car with the windows rolled up.:messedup

Think of it as news for the ~100 million adults that didn't vote.

I say eliminate all fences at all cliffs.
Let natural selection work.
Just think of all the genetic material that gets passed on because of fences at cliffs.
:D

She better hope her ex husband didn't see that video.(If there is one)
She would be back to court in no time flat.
IMO, she would deserve it.....My kids wouldn't even be within 10 feet of that fence.

Looks to me like the camera just happened to pan onto the guy jumping the fence, as the photographer pulled it away from their face when they realized with horror that the kid was falling... The reporter mentioned that the toddler "stopped" inches from the edge...
