View Full Version : Emporium rules...help me mods and members

Just an observation here. I understand the rules about selling/trading on the emporiums, but, I've seen a few members do this.
For example:
Bump a thread at 6 AM.
Delete the bump post at 11 AM on the same day, and add a new bump or add a new post to "change" something, spelling, price, or
answer a question, make a comment.

Obviously, the intent is to circumvent the rules and bump to top.
I've seen some members do it 3 times in the same day.
Decided to do it myself to see the results,
never got a warning. Definitely doesn't seem fair, unless I've missed something.

Bottom line...Is that really allowed?

Not trying to start a war, just curious.

just report it.. the mods will deal with it.. I'm sure they can't keep track of each thread that closely..

Here's how I understand it...someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

That's against the rules.

add a new bump or add a new post to "change" something, spelling, price, or answer a question, make a comment.

You can change something in the original post and it won't bump the thread. If you make a new post to point out the changes and bump your thread, that's fine as long as you only do it once per day. If someone does it more than once per day, then that is against the rules.

Answering questions is part of the game though...that's allowed, but they encourage you to answer multiple questions in one post, if possible, or answer them in personal messages.

You didn't get a warning because the mods don't police every single thread 24 hours a day. If a member caught it, they could have reported you, but otherwise, it probably would just go unnoticed. I wouldn't push it though, that's for sure.

If you catch someone else do it, just report them and the mods will handle it.

Bingo! We don't read every post. We rely on the members to self police the boards. Report it and we'll deal with it.

In fact, I just gave an infraction to someone tonight. Apparently, he's done it over and over again for the last 3-4 days. I never saw it, nor did any of the other mods. Once it was reported, he received an infraction. If he gets caught again, he'll receive a suspension.

It's a crappy way to try to circumvent the rules and get a 'one up' on the members who abide by the rules...

Please note that warnings and infractions can ONLY be seen by those that get them or the moderator team.

We respond to EVERY reported post. I'll stress that.

Just because you see something doesn't mean we have not done something. But at the same time, if you see something and don't report it... don't complain about it later. We cannot catch everything. There are well over 6,000 new posts here every day. EVERY day. We cannot read but a fraction of them.

TGP is member policed and moderator enforced. Please remember that.

I'd like to ask for a clarification of this:

You may only post one thread per emporium area per 24 hour period in order to not have any one member hog the board!

Does this mean that one may put up an ad today, a separate one tomorrow, and so on, and keep them all bumped up?

I'm not a mod, but the wording there seems very straight forward. One post per emporium area per 24 hour period. Not too hard.

If you have multiple items to sell, sell them serially.

Some one singled me out some time ago for excessive bumping.
I got 2 infractions.
My 2 bumps were within 2 hours of the 24 hour limit.(I was just thinking "next day" bumps and not EXACTLY 24 hours...Hard to believe , but yes it happened)
I know who it was and he is not seen around much or at all these days.

2 things ,,,,since we`re in moderator relations here ,

1 ... How do we report a possible infraction?

2 . What are the creative limits to psuedo auctions?

i.e ,,, an item valued at around 100 bucks (pedal ?)
listed as "asking 140 bucks OBO"

kind of comes off as an auction to me ... Is there any concern here about this ever more present sales pitch ?

oh .... 3 . Thanks mods ... I for one realize you guys are on the case and doing whatever possible to preserve the community concept despite the boom in members ...Good luck !
It feels like implosion is an ever present threat if things slide too much .

Man, I dig back to page 16 or 17 most of the time.
Jsut did a nice trade because I dug back further.

Nowadays the pages are current even going way back.

Strange, the rule clearly states calender day not 24 hour period, so reading the letter of the law it's legal to bump at 11pm then again 2 hours later (but you'd have a long stretch before the next legal bump). I don't know your specific circumstances but it'd have to be a pretty tight time window for you to be within a 24 hour limit and not two different calender days.

4. To prevent “bumping wars” you are allowed one bump per calendar day, but not on the day you first place your ad. You may respond to questions asked of you by other members, but are expected to do so in one response to all questions asked. This counts as your “bump” for the day. If you do not follow this rule, you may be suspended from being able to post in the emporiums.

THere's your answer. We can't see everything, we're not a police force lookin for offenders. You see something against the rules, doesn't mean you can do it yourself, means it's likely no one's reported it yet.

You know when someone's having cardiac arrest in public, in many cases they die because someone always assumes 'someone else' already called emergency services?

Same deal here. We don't read everything, (cant!) so please report them.
