For a portion of date night with the wife last night....
And there they were....
The "Book People"....they were everywhere... Some sitting, some standing, some staring, some reading, some sleeping. Many with glasses and they appearance of one who is learned...some with a dishevled look. Some even had a book in their hand...
All appeared intent on one thing: Books. The ones I noticed most were squated in the middle of an isle listening to an iPod as they read - multitasking! "Wow"...was all I could think....
It was then with much consternation that I made my way to the magazine rack and music section looking for the only important printed work there - Premier Guitar Magazine....(not a book, technically) specifically to view the ad's therein....
Suddenly, as I intently concentrated on this most valuable written work one of the "Book People" approached and commited the most egregious fau pax...the dreaded "peer over shoulder and read"...followed with the grab and "let me look at that..."
There's only ONE way to deal these situations...
I turned and yelled loudy "WTF dude" tackled him, rubbed the Magazine in his face (The one with my ad on it of course) and then quickly left the building....
:AOK
PS: This is satire...

B&N is a fave for the wife and me (and a decent cheap date!).
I'll take The Book People over, say, The Music Store Doodz most any day.

What's the problem?
Don't these people have a forum they can go too?

The guy's probably in his forum right now bitching about the guy that tackled him for no apparent reason and smashed a mag in his face :roll Then all of the other Book People join in telling him how he should have handled the situation, a few get infractions, two suspended and one banned. :phones

FYI, Barnes & Noble is a great place to go to on a first date...not necessarily make a night out of it, but just stop by after having dinner or something.
You can learn A LOT about a person based on the way they act in a bookstore...no BS.

Like what? Ooh....are going to science section or do head straight for the children's section....(doe she wanna have babies if she goes straight to the kids section?)
Or the worst....she could be a "bookaphobic" not necessarily a bad thing in todays computerized world (to include gadgets that are electronic book readers)

Guilty as charged.

It can teach a man several things about a woman really quickly (that is, if he really cares to know them and isn't just trying to get in her pants) and see if there is a compatability there.
Intelligence, maturity level, interests, hobbies, desires, and opinions/stances on many different things. Just about every charateristic a person can have is tackled in some way in books and all the topics are neatly organized and laid right out in front of you. Want to know something specific? Just guide her over to that section. Women love to talk about themselves, so you don't even have to barely ask them anything...they'll just spill it out.
I know that you're married, LavaMan, but us single guys need all the advantages we can get. :AOK

It can also give you useful information if she goes looking for any number of self-help books, or med books on rare illnesses.

You're probably right.
And that's after they wasted gas and cut down trees that could have been used to build guitars.

I love bookstores. Where else are people encouraged to come in & par-
take of information without the pressure of buying anything?
I hate " Starbucks " it should be called " Char-bucks " judging by the
taste of it's coffee.

Y'know this brings up a scary thought. I'm just picturing...if you're an older guy with your new gal in the magazine section, and you start flippin' through guitar mags with like all the tat-metal guys jumpin' all over the cover...
...guess if a woman goes shrieking out of the mag section at a bookstore, you know she's there with a guitarist. :)

Funny, but that brings up an interesting point. What if you were there thumbing through your guitar mags and she asks, 'You don't play guitar, do you? I hate that crap...it's not even music, just noise.'
Well, you just might have to leave her there, huh?

A question? Are Barnes and Noble those old guys who used to sell wine on TV?

I beg to differ here. Though he was not a regular, he still had the right to defend his space. Your argument is ill thought out.

I stopped into a B&N yesterday and Dick Vitale was there for a book signing. I didnt see anyone buy a book or get anything signed. Pretty awkward.

How about this? My wife and I go to B&N and are followed around the entire time!
It was a big pain to be followed like that. Like we were theives LOL:)
I could not search for nothing by the constant spying at every turn!
My Wife feed up ,left the building and I stayed just to fook with them :)
Its sad that people are subject to this :(
I order online now!
B&N over-price anyway.
