Well after 20 years of Hanging up my Dirt Bike racing Gloves,I went and Purchased an almost new 2006 WR250F Yamaha!
I Raced very solid in the 70,s and into the late 80,s and quit for this long a time,so I went to buy my Grandson a 125 and ended up also buying this one!
So I,m really enjoying riding dirt again,so I wanted to ask since this 250 is like brand new only about 15 hrs on it,and feels very good to me the only thing is that when I punch the throttle it has this hastatin for a second!
Any advice helpful.:drink

I had dirt bikes as a kid.. MR 50, CR 80 and a YZ 125. Nothing like all that power between your legs! I'd love to get another one one day but dont know when i'd have time to ride it..

Re jet the carb.. They sell 4 strokes with lean jetting to keep the smog police off their back..
Check out thumpertalk.com and search for jetting and other tunning tips for your bike. there arew plenty of WR250 riders.. There is probably a jetting kit for your bike and that website is the place to find out who offers it..... It'll run cooler and much better...
I have a YZ250 2 stroke that I installed a WR450 (WR= Wide Ratio)gearbox into. it's a great desert bike!

Nice - congrats! I think a WR is what I would get for a strictly off road bike. Sold my DRZ400S (heavily modified) a few years ago due to lack of time to ride it (and ride the R1, the desk at the day gig, the stage with two bands, and the girlfriend). Loved getting out on the trails though!

I started riding in 1970, currently run a 1999 CR250r. I haven't been on the track in 3 years, but I still shoot through the woods up behind my studio building.

Thumpertalk is the place to go if you need 4-banger info, good site.

Great fun, and a good workout too!

I love riding, it's just that all the good riding places are closed up :messedup

I have a 98 CR250 which is pretty explosive bike. :BEER

I certainly don't ride but my brother in law has quite a name here in Japan. He entered and finished the Paris-Dakar rally, twice. And he placed third in his class in the Baja 1000.

Me I just putter around on an ATV every once in a while...lol.

Well, it is a four stroke and they are a little different than the two strokes of yore. It may not be just a jetting issue but my experience is limited to CZ's, Maico's, Bultaco's, Suzuki's and Elsinore's from the period of 75 to 78.

I have noticed that many bikes come a little rich from the factory. Four strokes have that need for an extra squirt when you grab the throttle because they have that pause in their firing that two strokes don't. That's probably where you're answer lies.

Yeah, thumpertalk.com will be you're new hang out. They're awesome over there. What a great time to be riding!

BTW, that Yamaha is the one I'd get. It must be awesome!

The reason Bultacos and CZs (Even Yamaha) 2 strokes are jetted rich from the facotory is to keep them from grenading during break in as two strokes are lubricated from there fuel source were four strokes are lubricated from their crankcase oil. So you can run a four stroke carb VERY lean even when it's brand new. Too lean actually to run correctly. If the manufacturer did that with a brand new two stroke, You'd be walking your bike back to your truck. You usually have to lean your two stroke out jetting wise after you purchase it. not the same with modern day four strokes......
