...... and based on that, how many people will we have on the Planet in 20 years? :messedup
...... and what kind of shortages will we suffer other than oil, water and trees? http://img3.harmony-central.com/acapella/ubb/redface.gif

I've seen it broken down as Crude Birth Rate & Crude Death Rate per 1000 people world wide.
2007 stats were 20.3 births per 1000 people or 136 million/yr and 9.6 deaths per 1000 people or 64.3 million/yr.

Former demographer here, I can answer the first two questions.
Total births around 135 million per year (about 370,000 per day).
Total deaths around 60 million per year (about 164,000 per day).
So the world population increases by about 206,000 people every day -- pretty amazing, huh?
Current world population is about 6.7 billion. Forecasts put it at a little over 8 billion in twenty years.

The third question is much harder to answer.

Hopefully we won't need petrol...
Clean water will be harder to come by...I don't think we'll ever "run out" of trees.
After that...it's probably some obscure metal that's a catalyst for building nanotubes...or essential in the manufacture of 3rd generation solar panels or something (key ingredient of Flux Capacitors).

I only have that kind of knowledge for certain areas, e.g. demography, since that's what my PhD is in.
When I took my oral exam for the PhD, I had to have all those kinds of facts memorized.

Don't forget to factor in the alien abductions--at least the ones who don't get brought back.
