I'm a pretty big, long time fan of NASCAR, but man i can barely keep my eyes open here. this season has set NASCAR back at least 15 years.
You said it man! Whatever happend to "Stock Car" racing? I'm not naive enough to believe that they're going to run true stock vehicles, but I'd really like to be able to visually differentiate a Ford from a Chevy without having to look at the logo on the grille.
I'll come back to watching Nascar when the Car of Tomorrow becomes "the car we used to use".
One good thing that's come from this, is I've been attending a lot more local short track racing with my Dad, and friends, and I've enjoyed it more than any Nascar race I've been to in several years.

I don't know about that aspect of it, I can't tell street cars apart anymore either for the most part, but this idea of whoever gets out front just runs away with the race is insane. a guy can come up to second from 35th and get right on the leader's ass and not be able to pass him. Something is very, very wrong there.

I like Nacar......This year and "The Car"...I don't know.
I would like to see them get back to some old school racing.
Does anybody know what has to happen for JJ not to win the Cup on todays race?

If Carl wins and leads the most laps, JJ has to finish like 32 or better.

So...I can start celebrating in the Team Lowes hat and t-shirt now !!!!
Oh...and my other car is now leading...go J Go... (then again, Steve LeTarte will find a way to screw up the handling...give him time)

NASCAR has major issues. From the financial situation at the manufacturers, to the snooze fest created by the new car, to the failings of the Chase format to offer even a remotely interesting "playoff" system, to fans staying home in droves, to a lack of sponsorships for the teams.
And Brian France has his head buried in the sand, continuing to repeat over and over that all is just fine.

It's going to be interesting when only 30 fully funded teams leave the 2009 Daytona 500 and head for Fontana.

At least the truck series is exciting. The rest has been sort of lame.

Oh I don't think France has his head in the sand. He's just not airing things out in public. They pretty much banned testing for next year to save money. With the mfg concerns, I think they'll move even closer to a spec class.

Fixes:
Bring back the "twisted sister" car.
Shorten the season to 30 races - easy drop one race from Pocono, Texas, Phoenix,
New Hampshire, Dover, Vegas and NO RACES at Fontana !!!
Shorten the races themselves...by at least 20% of laps (3 hours of NASCAR is plenty on a weekend)
Eliminate the chase-make the champion win the Cup with wins, top five finishes.
Allow teams free choice of trannies, suspensions, tires & no restrictor plates.
Finally...start all races no later than 1 PM - those of us watching on TV are sick and tired of schedules for the West Coast (again...drop Fontana !!!)
To enter the top division (now Sprint...tomorrow, who knows ?!) you must have at least completed two full seasons in the Nationwide/Busch series.
That's my start....

I think my idea of a competitive league is getting better.. I say somebody with alot of money go around to all the "old" tracks that have been left by nascar and do a few races a year.. Offer big time prize money and pretty much let them run as fast as they want to.

some final stats for the season:
3 drivers won 24 of the 36 races....the remaining 12 were won by 9 others
meaning 12 drivers won ALL 36 races......(of the 3 that won 24 races....the one that won the least amount won the Cup....huh?)
3 teams won 29 of the 36 races.....the remaining 7 races were won by 3 other teams.....
meaning 6 teams won ALL 36 races.....and DEI was not one of them
This is the problem....

When the new car was being phased in, NASCAR and those that cover the sport claimed it would help the little teams because they would nopt need to build individual cars for nearly every track, so they could spend less money and be competitive with the big boys. They also said it was designed to reduce the amount of "aero" problems and allow for closer and more side by side racing and possibly the return of the "slingshot" pass. Obviously none of these things have come to fruition and now NASCAR and those that cover the sport are denying that they ever made these claims. It's harder than ever to pass with this car and they seem to be way more aero-dependent than ever.

This "sounds" good...but how do you get enough teams capable of pulling off the Cup circuit to run these "league" races ? It would be great to see the return of cars like Gordon's "T-Rex"...that Evernham monster from 1997.

They didn't "ban" testing. They banned testing at tracks that hold Series events. All this means is the teams that can afford it will test at other tracks. Nothing NASCAR does to save money for the little guys actually does anything but widen the gap between the haves and the have-nots.
If you want to follow the lead plane into the ground, be my guest. I'm breaking off because I am not watching his wing. I see the ground rushing up at a very high rate of speed.
