I have a Chevy and Ford 1/2 ton pickup at work, and I greatly favor the Chevy. Better ride and has been very dependable. It is older than the Ford, so we will have to see. Both are fine vehicles and superior to the Dodge imo. In fairness, the Dodge is cheaper.

I have a buddy who buys Dodge, and hauls horses/hay, etc. He likes them due to the power. However, he went thru 5 tranny's on his last one, and has already had some trouble with his new hemi.

Dunno about cars. We buy Honda or Toyota at my house.

I have a 2001 Dodge pickup with a V6 and manual trans. I bought it with 22k on it and it now has 43k on it. I've had no problems but I don't haul anything, I just like trucks. I'd rather have my Dodge pickup than a BMW, that's just a stinkin' car!

My last truck was a Ford and I replaced almost everything under the hood before crying uncle and trading it in.

I like the Chevy HHR (I think that's what it's called). As much as I like trucks, I'm realizing they're no longer as practical for me as they once were.

Dodge, yes. Chevy, yes. Ford, no thanks.

I voted for GM. I've owned Fords...wouldn't ever buy anything Mopar...The GM's I've had ('95 Yukon, 04 Suburban, 07 Suburban) have had their problems, but for the most part they have been solid vehicles.

I've had all three brands of truck. I'm really in love with my current Hemi Crew Cab Ram. Power on tap. I'm a long time Chevy guy, but my current ride and my previous F-250, blow away my former Silverado.

Of the Big 3, Ford, I think, has the best overall quality IMHO, relatively speaking, of course. The only American car I've ever owned was a '96 Saturn, which would officially be GM, I guess. That thing always nickeled-and-dimed me. Turned into a true money pit after 90k miles.

They all suck. Really. I've owned all 3, and have never had a good one from any American auto maker.

The Toyota I had was the best car I've ever owned. I'd still be driving a Toyota if they made a car big enough. My 2005 Suburban has been a money pit - in and out of the shop constantly since I bought it.

GM is pretty legit with their trucks (though in fairness everything other than their trucks and cadillacs are cancerous). The ride on my dad's 05 suburban is extremely smooth and the car is very responsive, especially for its size.

I'm a Chevy guy from a family of Chevy owners.

After I scrapped my old Silverado I bought a Tacoma. Haven't looked back. That said, I wanted 4WD and I don't need a fullsize pickup anymore.

I used to be a huge chevy guy....

Then I found my '99 F-350 Crew cab with a 7.3l turbo diesel! Now I like both.

I have a 72 GMC Suburban. The last of the 3 door suburbans. Remember, the metal dashes, no soft wimpy stuff.....door sills that would burn your arm off in the summertime..

So I have both now. And my wife drives a Toyota Sequoia

Ford...I currently have an '08 Escape that is doing the job up here in winterland just fine.
I think their trucks/suv's are pretty much top of the heap.
No history of problems with any I've owned...and I drive the bejeezus out 'em.

For years I thought Chevy was the best, while I owned many late 60 & early 70's mopars at the time (they were cheaper).

But today, if I had to choose, and I'm glad I don't. FORD would be the car of choice.

I had a Focus in 2000 for a very short period of time, after trying one in Europe, too bad they spoiled it in the US. Just wish they would sell the Europen version here and leave them alone.

I chose Dodge. I had a Dodge 1 ton van that went 162,000 miles and was running flawlessly when I sold it. The only non stanard repairs I did were replace the fuel pump ($700) and clean the injector body ($400). I've had 3 Dakotas with no problems. 2 of 3 had over 100,000 miles when I traded. I'm driving the 3rd. I had a new Chev 3/4 ton a long time ago (1986) that kept on blowing trannies. I was pleased with a F250 I had but that was a 1973:D I know that the current Fords are good but they are about 20% more than a current Dodge plus Dodge offers zero interest loans. Chevs are priced well but when I was ready to buy last year, I'd heard rumours tha GM was so disorganized that they weren't making spare parts but were cannabilizing unshipped stock for parts. Of course, now judging by the headlines, the rumour could've been accurate. As far as cars go, my wife had a Mazda Protege that was bullet proof and a great car that went 150000 miles. We only sold it to get a minivan. The minvan we got, a GMC Safari, while not terribly sophisticated and full of finish glitches, won't die and is cheap to service.

Ford for me. I recently sold my 2000 Focus. It had just over 192,000 miles on it and I probably spend $500-$700 on it in the 8 years that I owned it, and the only reason it was that much is the one time it was really in the shop I had to take it to the dealership. I traded a 1996 Probe in for the Focus; it had 176,000 miles on it and I don't think I ever had it in the shop.

My mother's 1999 Explorer has over 225,000 miles on it and my grandfather's Ranger does too. Both vehicles are rarely if ever in the shop.

Then again, the two cars in the garage are a Toyota and an Acura. But I'd buy another Ford.

I have no idea about performance, but as far as looks go, I like the new GMs over the other two.

Across the board though, it's Toyota for me.

I see they are still advertising the horsepower of pickup trucks on TV. If I was in the market for a pickup gimme the one with the best gas mileage, no A/C and presumably gutless diesel engine and 6 speed manual transmission so I can shove it in a really low gear when I need the extra pull. As far as I'm concerned, if you can't drive a truck with a clutch you shouldn't be on the road - you girly-boy you! :)

Your dad's 2005 Suburban's transmission is likely to go out. The tranny on my 05 Yukon XL (same basic vehicle) has failed TWICE. Tell him to get an extended warranty. Somebody tipped me off to get one, and it saved me financially.

But you are right. It does ride smoothly. :)

GM by far. Toyota has the media hype thing won but the vehicles are hardly real work trucks, and will be an expensive bucklet of bolts at 200k miles. Oh, but they have nice interiors.

With American cars these days, I have to vote on looks. Chrysler has been making some damn good looking cars for a long time. I'll but Japanese, though.

Sorry that you are confused and mis-informed.
I've owned several Toyota trucks from the 80s and on and never had a major issue with any of them. They can do as much work as your Ford or Chevy without breaking down. :) You should read some independant long term test data and they'll easily back that up. If the Big 3 were so good, they wouldn't be going bankrupt now would they? !! http://img3.harmony-central.com/acapella/ubb/redface.gif

It looks like Ford is running away in the poll.

Have owned several Ford SUVs and now have a F250SD with 100K and no issues other than routine maintenance and a cam position sensor. I voted for Ford. I use Mobil DelVac One Diesel Synthetic oil and highly recommend it for diesel trucks.

Last May I traded my pickup for a Ford Edge SEL AWD.....there's not a day that goes by that I don't say out loud ....."I love this Car"......Ford really got it right with these Edge's......there hasn't been a single glitch with it in the 6500 miles Ive driven it.....I know its still early, but Ive got high hopes......and I can do an oil change in about 20 mins......with not a drop of oil on any frame members or the floor.....I Love this car....ooopps....said it again

GM. I had an 89' Suburban with 255,000 miles with no major issues besides the body rotting off!

The thing is, what some would consider big problems, others will consider normal wear and tear maintenance. Sure I had to do a brake job, U-joints, an alternator etc... but the motor and drivetrain (besides u-joints) was bullet-proof.

Sadly sold that one and now have a 99' GMC Suburban 2500 one ton. 135,000 and runnin great besides U-joints and a brake job. But i'm pretty hard on trucks. I do lots of heavy towing.

I've got a '97 Honda CRV....still running well at 190000 miles, '06 Cadillac CTS and '08 Chev Silverado 4x4, which both run perfectly.

What do you think everyone outside of North America uses for their work truck?
