Looks great! I need to take my family somewhere besides Disney for our next vacation. It's been about 7 years since we did the Mexico thing.

Mind if I ask what kind of "gear" you used to take those pics? AKA camera/lens info.

I'll be going in March, can't wait. Unfortunately I'll be with some inlaws who travel with with peanut butter and crackers so they can eat "normal food".
Thanks everyone! That's only a small smattering of the pics we took... man what a fantastic trip. For anyoen looking for a budget-friendly vacation (depending on when you go), I can highly recommend Playa. Good stuff, and the water is just perfect. Thanks for the kind words!
BigJamesBoy: The camera is a Canon XSi with the stock 18-55mm kit lens. A few shots were taken with a 50mm lens. Still learning how to use this thing.
Stike: I'm jealous buddy! March in Mexico would be awesome. try to steal away and eat as much legit food as you can!

My family and I did a 5 day/4 night all inclusive at a resort just outside of Playa del Carmen a few years ago. Beautiful. Went to the ruins of Telum one day, into town one day, rest of the time at the beach. Very wonderful place. Thanks for the pics and the reminder, glad you had a good time.
We'd gone to one of those nearby all-inclusive resorts, Iberostar. I believe it was called "Iberostar Del Mar."
Tip for anyone going: Drinks of course are part of the inclusive package. That said, they give you small plastic cups for the beer, usually Dos Equis draft. Bring with you a large soda travel mug for your beer. You will have to bring it with you. It seems impossible to find them at any store in Playa Del Carmen or elsewhere.
They'll fill it up and usually make a joke about it too. I brought a soda travel mug from Walgreen's, about 24 oz. Got an even bigger one for the next trip... ;)

If they even try to make me go to a TGI McFunsters I'm throwing a tantrum!

Great trip details, I'm going to save that to the hard drive. Time to start studying so I where the closest good food is in comparison to whatever "gringoteria" might be chosen to dine at.

I checked out your pics and descriptions of your trip. I see you liked Tulum a lot. I lived on the beach there, in some campground that is probably long gone, back in 1980. It was called Santa Fe. Do you know if it's still there? We stayed there for a few months, in a little palapa. It was very basic back then. The spearfishing was incredible. We ate lobster and snapper every day. It was one of the coldest and rainiest winters on record, at that point, but it was still great. Every once in a while, we'd go to Cancun, to stock up on food and booze and to citify ourselves a little, but I found Cancun to be pretty uninteresting, mostly.
I'll bet it's a lot different down there now.
Thanks so much everyone! I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures and the trip report. Really, the kind words are much appreciated.
Stike: If you have any other questions about the area, I'd be more than happy to lend a hand in any way I can... there's plenty I didn't mention. There's a great place for grilled beef in Playa called "HC De Monterrey", very un-gringo and very awesome.
Seth: I'm officialy jealous, that must have been awesome. I imagine that campground might still be around in some shape, but I didn't see it. Tulum is fantastic. I agree though, Cancun doesn't really do anything for me.
