...a guitar for an amp? i see in the forums, alot of people trading this and that. but i could never trade a guitar that i own for an amp. i feel connected to my guitars on a personal level, and not really so with my amps. questions? comments? trades?

don't let the things you own own you :)

short of true one of a kind pieces, I feel like everything can be replaced.

and, yes I would and have many times.

Yeah if it was a good trade for me.. But it is easier to sell and ship guitars than amps.

If you have an american standard strat, and you just bought it for a little under a thousand, and somone offered you a Marshall 2204 head in an even trade - i wouldn't call you crazy for pulling the trigger. It really depends.

I would do that in a heartbeat if it was an amp I would like to own. I've had a bunch of guitars and amps. I agree that guitars are more personal but I'm not going to spoon with one :)

I saw if it's a good deal then go for it.

Never done it myself (have traded an amp for a guitar though). I suppose if the right trade came along, I's go for it.

I used to say that I would never trade a guitar for an amp.
A year and a half ago I sold a very sweet '02 LP Standard that I sure miss and advanced the most I ever had in my life playing it but I don't regret doing it.
The amp I got is an instrument in itself, a Victoria Tweed Deluxe and gives me a versatile voice that prior to that I did not have.

A good amp is as iportant as a good guitar.
And yes I am more attached to a guitar but you've got to look at the whole package. It's a set of tools.

Obviously you haven't spent much time in the amp section of this forum. Once you get bitten by that bug you understand... I personally feel far more connected to my amps than I do to my guitars, because I use really primary senses to feel out what the guitar is doing (I mean, I'm literally manipulating it with my fingers and what not). The amp on the other hand responds to my playing differently than other amps, and I can't feel it without just going for it and seeing what happens.

So yeah, based on that notion, once I've got an amp figured out, or I really vibe with the way it's responding to my playing and my touch sensitivity, then I bond. A guitar is just a guitar. A tool to make my amp sound good. This actually makes open jams increasingly difficult, because if I have to play through a Blues Jr. it's just not the same and it gets into my head a little.

I've done the opposite, traded a Vox AC-50 for a 57 Les Paul Jr..........That got stolen 2 weeks later!

dets1, I know what you mean... the guitar is what you put in your hands and it's easier to feel the bond with it more than the amplifier. Of course, if you open the GAS to some of the fine boutique amplfiers you could get in serious trouble....

That's it in a nutshell.
However for the "spoon" part.....

How about your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Would you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

I don't get it. It's all just "stuff". I trade "stuff" all the time. I dig a good amp no less than a good gtr.
