He started off with Purple Reign, then Cold Hard Cash, now Mr Brownstone.

The Prince band was quite good, and it went downhill pretty quickly.

Tonight was awful IMO. Very clownish costumes and not very good players.

The Prince guy was really good, as was his band

Prince doesn't allow his videos on youtube, so I'm not sure if he appreciated a guy mimmicking him and playing his song on Letterman.

Purple Reign was cool. I didn't think much about the Johnny Cash tribute though.

The GnR band, Mr. Brownstone, was awful. I think the key to the real GnR sound is of course Axl's voice, and this band didn't quite make the cut.

Can you imagine you're out in the small club circuit and all of a sudden, you get a call from Letterman's people that they want you to perform a song or two on live tv. I'm sure alot of small time performers would freeze up. Maybe that was the case for some of the acts? I didn't see it so can't say for sure but maybe?

I've seen all three, not overly impressed with any of them. I'm not super critical, but the Prince guy just didn't have the vocal or guitar chops IMO to pull off Prince, but they did a pretty good show overall as far as clothes and dancing etc. Wasn't horrible by any means.

I probably liked the Johnny Cash guy the best, though I can't say he was a spectacular imitation. But he did Johnny and Luther too, I'll give him credit for that.

Letterman plugged the GnR band's upcoming gig at the Fillmore NY Irving Plaza, not exactly a stadium show, but I don't know if it's the small club circuit either.

There was a guy who used to busk around here, maybe he still does, but he did a dead on James Taylor. I've never heard a closer imitation of an artist.
