I sat next to her on a flight to chicago last night. Very warm and friendly person - down to earth. I didn't realize who she was until, after five minutes of conversation, she casually mentioned that Derek Trucks is her husband.:dude :RoCkIn

Good for you!! I met Susan in 2003 and you're absolutely right. Very pleasant and wonderful to talk with. Here's a pic I took of her that day...

It's really great to meet someone who's famous and talented and then find out that they are equally nice and gracious. Susan has always seemed to be so down to earth and wonderful so that's great to hear first hand.

I've heard great things about Susan from people who've met her, also how tiny she is. It would have been fun (as a guitarist) to pretend NOT to know who Derek Trucks is just for a couple minutes, and see her reaction. Comment about liking ABB, Clapton, Gov't Mule, and see how she responds. :-) I'm sure it was an interesting flight, I would have loved that.

What a cool celeb encounter. Always liked her. Susan and Derek are a great musical couple. My personal favorite is Diana Krall and Elvis Costello.

She's so nice and friendly I can't even believe it...

Didn't meet Derek that day..he was busy. His Band played after Susan & the ABB was later that night. I did meet him in 07 shortly before Crossroads..just like Susan, super cool.
Here's their son, Charles watching mom & dad 1yr old at the time...

Apparently she grew up in a very wealthy family.

It is nice when one is born with a silver spoon that they are still down to earth for us common folk.

If you judged her by her speaking voice, you'd never think she can sing like she does.
Great voice & performer. I like her music.

I had the opportunity to jam with her years ago at a blues club in Atlanta......you should have seen everyones mouth drop to the ground when she started wailing on the guitar including mine!

We played Hound Dog.....Sean Costello was playing guitar that night to with her. She was sweet.

No, wasn't like that. We were talking music. Here's how it went:

ME: So you play in a band?
ST: Yeah, I'm in the Susan Tedeschi Band, sometimes I play with the Derek Trucks Band.
ME: Wow, Derek Trucks!? He's awesome!
ST: Yeah, he's my husband.
ME: Oh...uh ... wow...cool...(feeling douchie about the unintentional diss) So, uh, is he playing with you in Chicago?

Looks like those pics of Susan and Derek were from the Gathering of the Vibes back in '03. That was such a great show. That whole weekend was one of the best times of my life. Nice to see the reminder...

You are correct sir!! Amazing weekend it was!! Remember James Brown?

I do remember James Brown. Did you stay for the David Grisman Quintet? That was arguably the best set of the whole festival. The set started with just the upright bassist solo for about 10 minutes and then Joe Craven comes out and makes the most incredible music you can ever imagine with an EMPTY PAPER COFFEE CUP! Gradually the rest of the band makes their way on stage saving Grisman for last. There were many people that left before then but those that stayed sure were hansomely rewarded. Good times, good times.

I haven't been back to the Vibes since they moved it back to Seaside Park. I've been through Bridgewater enough to know that it couldn't compare to Mariaville. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and go this year and hope that I don't get hit by a bullet (or step on a dirty needle). I saw pics, it certainly looks much better than it used to, but its still very disconcerting knowing that we're in the center of a giant ghetto. I apologize for the lack of a better term.

Anyway, its always nice talking about the "good old days".

Best Regards,

Abe P.

Apparently she grew up in a very wealthy family.

It is nice when one is born with a silver spoon that they are still down to earth for us common folk.

Her dad owned a chain of convenience stores in the Northeast; Tedeschi's Food Shops. I'm not sure if he sold to a larger chain but they were pretty successful when I was a teenager.

Susan worked hard though. She did get a great education (Berklee) but she also definitely paid her dues in the Greater Boston club scene. I'm sure the family money factor didn't hurt, but I don't think she had it all handed to her either.

...some people EARNED their family PERKS...others simply had them GIVEN to them.
