It's like I was allowed to pick the songs..I'm tellin you brother. Nothing but the finest..and about 30 of em..a double cd.

If you like Ry's finest guitar moments this is a must have...it even has Alimony on it.

You know those two or three cuts on each Ry album that make it worth buying and just blow you away? They are all on here.:AOK

bump so it can be seen by Cooder fans..something about having the cream of the crop hit you one after the other that really is something.

Every album gets represented from his first to Flathead..get it.

Paris Texas is on there...that deep blues from Crossroads the kid was supossed to have played..Get Rhythm...Billy the Kid...Alimony..Which came First...eh...there's 30-35 cuts of all the gooduns...and the sound quality is much improved.

I might as well put it in my player and zip the front shut.

Paradise & Lunch is one of the best albums of the '70's.

Thanks for tip. I have a set pattern of tunes I listen to and those I skip on each of his recordings as well. I'll always pick a good blues (or slide or mandolin) tune over "FDR in Trinidad" for example.
I admire his musicology, but love his playin more.

Can't wait to pick this one up, there's an interesting article in the NY Times about Ry...talking about the inspiration for his latest trilogy.

http://travel.nytimes.com/2008/11/23/travel/23Cooder.html

I'm listening to "Bop 'Til You Drop" right now and there's not a single track on that album that makes me want to fast forward...all classics.

"Chavez Ravine" is just brilliant, up there with his best, and I really like "I, Flathead" too ... what can I say, I've been a total Ry Cooder fan since the early 70s and that never changes. How I'd love to spend an afternoon hanging with him as the author of that article did ...

I have it ... I don't think it's as strong as "Chavez Ravine" or "I, Flathead" but it's very interesting, harks back to the early albums, and has some great album art & liner notes.

The Buddy CD got played once or twice and I liked it well enough but never got played again...but...Nobody does it like Ry.

I like Flathead, too.

Some of the very very best Ry can be found on that Mavis Staples cd..THAT is some FINE.

Also on John Hiatts "Bring the Family", the slide solo on Lipstick Sunset, Mmmmm. I'm surprised that one of my fave Cooder tracks, "How can a poor man stand such times and live" isn't on the track listing above.
Anyway thanks for the heads up. I have now added it to my letter to Santa!!!.:JAM

Just came home to Sweden after a three week vacation in the States (LA, SF and Hawaii). I had a GREAT time.
Got some amazing tickets (8th row) for a benefit concert in Santa Monica - Jackson Brown, Joan Baez, Bonnie Riatt and Ben Harper all backed up by Ry Cooder on slide guitar. I had a great time and couldn't believe I actually got the tickets. I used to be a fan of his work but haven't heard that much really. Some solo and some with Hiatt. Now I need to pick up some of his work and this disc sounds like a winner.
