Some of the stands are real bulky!!! Show some ideas.
Just wondering.

If I bother to bring one, I use my hands.

I've got a Coffin Case. It's cheaply built, but no need for stands.

An empty 4x12 would be a good stand box....along with cords, etc.

A straight one, with no baffle holes.

You can be the biggest star out there have a guitar tech, an amp tech and a personal gofer but until you employ a guitar stand carrier you are nobody!!!.:drinkhttp://www.thegearpage.net/board/images/icons/icon10.gif:RoCkIn

Small stands only - either in the Pedaltrain hard case or hooked to the back pack that carries the incidental essentials.

I use a couple of little foldable stands that fit in my utility sack.
the large ones a nuisance but unquestionably more sturdy.

Another vote for hands ... but sometimes armpit if I'm trying to multitask. :AOK

Interesting question. I've found guitar stands to be a problem when figuring out how to pack and carry gear to gigs. One solution I found was to get guitar stands that specifically fit my playing situation and what I was already carrying gear in.

I started out using these:

http://www.samash.com/wcsstore/root/Items/IP_Q/QGS438XXX_ip.jpg

...but found them bulky and heavy to pack and carry. Plus, whenever I tried to do a quick change between songs I'd pick up a guitar only to find that the strap had gotten under the holder hooks, so that I was picking up the stand with the guitar.

I switched to using some that are similar to this:

http://www.samash.com/wcsstore/root/Items/IP_R/RRS20820X_ip.jpg

They fold flat. I had a gig suitcase that carried a pedal board on the bottom, then cables, then the stands. Those stands were ideal for my situation at the time (fast switches of electric guitars in a cramped space). Nowadays I don't have need for that kind of stand. Plus most of the time I don't need a suitcase full of gear and have no place to keep the suitcase during shows. I play acoustic so I use can get by with a mini acoustic stand like this:

http://www.samash.com/wcsstore/root/Items/IP_F/F1812000X_ip.jpg

The mini stand folds up and rides in the front pocket of my acoustic guitar gig backpack. On my occasional gigs with electric or bass guitar I usually go standless.

I have a Fender tweed briefcase. The Quicklock fits in there around my pedals and leads etc.

No stands, spare guitar gets lent on a chair or the wall.

I use this:

When I'm not using it, it velcros out of the way inside my combo.

I use the RKS Gig stand, which folds extremely flat and conveniently into a gig bag. The Shubb Talon is similar in design and equally compact, thought the RKS has a higher back for accomodating a bass with a longer neck.

I've often wondered if one might adapt a standard pedal board case with some folding dividers in the cover that could hold a couple of electrics when folded out. I'm talking about the top cover part with the foam in to protect the pedals.

I have the "Hercules" self gripping stand, which is just one piece. I either put it in my band leaders stand bag or I just carry it loose with my mic stand. That thing is built like a brick s**t house!!!

That's what I use. They weigh pretty much nothing and folded they take up almost no space. Small and light is a major consideration for my gigging gear.

Must be an SC thing, I have the 3 thin + 1 acoustic/archtop slots, + keep a Hercules foldup underneath the pedal board for an extra big body guitar if needed. I hate carrying and packing guitar stands.

Seriously..it's a padded tubular stand that folds..holds 5 guitars.

Thanks for mentioning that. I'll check it out.

I'm using a duffle bag, which also holds guitar, mic, and AC power cables, extra mics, direct box, extra batteries, and, umm, and :o , a music stand.

very informative so far and great ideas...but, the big ones that hold the 5 guitars...that seams to be a trip from the car to the club all by itself....
What a pain these things are

I use a DIY "stagehand"......here is how to:You will find a stiff foam "board" at your local gardening center{probably @ Wmart as well}which is used to cushion your knees when working the soil/planting.Essentially make appropriate cut for your guitar neck...I size the width so I can slide it under the amp handle.Never had any problem...very lite and goes into back of amp or guitar bag for extra protection!

I do not use stands on gigs. When I go on break my guitar goes in the case.

I have one of those Fender 3-guitar briefcase stands. I really like those because they protect the guitars well from all sides, won't tip over easily like some stands and transport easily (you carry it just like a briefcase.)

Other options:

I have a couple Ultimate-brand guitar stands that fold up (no removable pieces) and I sometimes put those in my On Stage Stands mic stand bags. On Stage Stands makes mic stand bags and speaker stand bags in a few different sizes. You could use those.

I also carry them in duffle bags. Thrift stores can be great for finding cases, luggage, laptop bags (which can double as pedalboard bags) and the like.

I like this one. It folds flat, set up is fast and you can just throw it away when the gigs over. No need to repack it.

I like the Ultimate stand, it folds very compact and is safe for nitro.

After having somebody trip over a cord and face plant one of my strats I looked for a better alternative.
The Ultimate GS-100 works great for me, it is very stable.
This folds up to about 12" long and goes in my bag with the other junk.

For flying gigs, I fold one of those small Hercules stands into each guitar's flightcase. The flightcase has a cutout which fits the stand perfectly.

For all other gigs I've got one almost like Ed's over here. Fits 4 electrics and one acoustic.

I have a Duffle type bag with wheels and a handle, it holds all my Ultimate Guitar stands(3), a mini mic stand with a boom for micing my amps.
Assorted Guitar, mic and speaker cables also powerstrips and extension cords.
MY most important piece of gear is a great pair of leather gloves to protect my hands...

This is my preference too. I carry 2 of them, as well as a small folding amp stand that leans the combo back nicely. I put them all, as well as numerous other things that I may never use until I don't bring them, in a larger canvas tool bag available at Lowes. They're well constructed, and capable of holding a great deal of gear.

I can fit all of my gear on a collapsible 4-wheel dolly. Played a recent gig where the walk from the loading dock to the stage was 15 minutes, to include elevators down, then up again (Gaylord Texan Resort, Grapevine, TX).

Me too, but boy, they scare the heck out of me. I've had a few close calls, but nothing broken so far. They fit in the back of my amp.
