I heard yesterday that Jack White of the White Stripes was battling incurable cancer. I have not been able to find anything about this through your normal search avenues so I am assuming that, as one would hope, IT IS NOT TRUE. Can anyone verify one way or the other...

I would say it is a rumor just from the phrase "uncurable cancer". What exactly is uncurable cancer?

I hope that rumor is untrue. I became aware of Jack White's incredible talent after purchasing Van Lear Rose, the amazing recording he cut with Loretta Lynn.

That is one of the best albums recorded in the last - well since "Amused To Death"

Jack is one of the few current guys who knows where to put the mics and how hard to hit the tape.

Can you name ONE RELIABLE source for this rumor? I googled it and came up with ZILCH. So I find it hard to believe.

Wow, I REALLY hope that isn't true. Only a total scumbag would start a rumor like that.

I am marking it as discounted...BTW my source is a family friend who insists that Guns N' Roses "One in a Million" is actually a cover of a Skrewdriver song so, I took it with a grain of salt.

I heard the new Raconteurs today - it's amazing! Way better than anything I've heard JW do before. Can't wait to grab the album.
...and I have heard nothing about him having incurable cancer.

That's self-explanatory, it is a type of cancer that has no cure.
I hope the rumors are not true and, either way, I wish Jack all the best.

Sounds like the reporter went to the Ralph Wiggum School of Journalism "Me fail English? That's unpossible."

I was blown away by the album with Loretta Lynn. That clip was great.
That album kills from start to finish. Very unique sound, Jack White all over it.

I checked this out after reading this thread and promptly bought a copy. And I am not much of a country fan but am a big Jack White/White Stripes/Raconteurs fan. This album is awesome. I bet some bluehairs had a heart attack when they heard this one.

Was he the engineer?
Brendan Benson was the engineer which probably means Jack White was calling the shots on the sounds as well. That's his thing for sure. Most indie type engineers that are involved in projects like Van Lear Rose are responsible for creating the overall vibe of the record which would spill over heavily into choices of what gear is used and how the engineer uses it to achieve his vision for the record.

The survival rate for most brain cancers is pretty low.
Any lymphatic cancer is basically a death warrant.
I suppose literally speaking, all cancers are 'uncurable'. There is no 'cure' for cancer, only treatment. Its just that some spread so quickly the available treatments are basically useless.
That said, I doubt he has cancer and its probably just a rumor.

Not true. There are several types of cancer that are considered curable. You can't think of the word 'cancer' in broad terms. There is no one cancer...they are all different with different mechanisms of action, symptoms, treatments, and prognoses.

I thought they literally didn't know what kinds of cancer couldn't be treated. I wasn't attempting to edit this thread with my copy of Strunk and White but thanks.

You grammar professors do realize that sometimes the apparent misuse of a word doesn't indicate ignorance on the writer's part but is often more on par with a slip of the tongue? I'm guessing you feel the need to make such an issue of typos in order to feel superior? I can imagine you guys would be a lot of fun to RIGHT lyrics with...ahem

This is correct. All cancers are different, and some are completely curable. Some of the most rapidly growing cancers are also the most susceptible to chemotherapy. Also, some cancers can still be cured even when invading lymphatics. And of course, some of the most curable cancers include those arising from lymphoid cells, such as childhood leukemias. Of course, there are too many which are essentially incurable at the present. We can only hope that will change.

You might have a point if there weren't so many songs with painfully bad grammar, and using "ain't" is not what I'm talking about.
