A 14 year old boy listened to Yngwie Malmsteen in 1984 and was veritably blown away.... and affected musically.
Then over the years, this boy moved on and soaked up the sound of musicians from all walks of life..... rock, blues, metal, fingerstyle, classical, jazz, fusion,....... etc......
I remember this song, and how it made me feel, some 25 (-) years ago.
The feel, the timing, the phrasing, and the notes and perfection are all there.
And it's live.
Bash away. And thanks, Yngwie.
....even though I've moved on since that time......

You are evil...
j/k... Yngwie generally isn't my style... but if he inspires a few of us now and again, that's cool. BTW, I liked the video.

He's a great player - then/now.
While not what I spend my time listening to these days, big props where they're due...

He's great. Since note one he's been great. He's an arrogant guy sometimes, and gets a bad rap because his music is passe and cheesy Viking rock- but that doesn't change the fact that he's a great guitarist who's easily...damn near instantly recognizable. That's saying something. I don't listen to him and have only owned the first record(rising force?) way back. Just the same intense player, with an incredible devotion to the instrument.
Cheers to you Yngwie-

Nice ! One of those rare times I've seen him play a non-scalloped fretboard.

I love him, and I am exactly your age. I wish I could play like that too. I am not ashamed to admit it at all.

Regardless of what anyone thinks about Yngwie, he's pure talent. I still like some of his music but I will admit that he's put out some pretty cheesy stuff over the years.
However, the first three albums will remain immortal.
He's been an inspiration not only to myself but thousands of others and he's always been the king of the neo-class genre.

I remember getting Black Star as a floppy in guitar player mag. Bought Rising Force soon after and was completely inspired.

Me too! It hit at a very impressionable age for me. I still listen to him now and then. Speed aside, his vibrato is fantastic.

I never listen to him anymore, but that clip was awesome. I'm 38, so I remember the huge impact he had when he came to the surface in the 80's. We did not have all the shredding that everyone has been overdone with now. He was and is a monster.

pretty cool clip. i particularly liked the classical phrasing of the intro.
IMO yngwie gets too much flack for basically being a charicature of himself. We forget that he can be very musical when he wants to be.

Question......
I kind of avoided this stuff back in the day, but was aware of it.
I don't remember Alcatrazz being THAT big........so how the hell did they end up with both the Yngwster AND Vai?
The hair metal Yardbirds?

Graham Bonnet sang for Blackmore's Rainbow and Schenker's MSG and was quite well-respected for that love-it-or-hate-it voice.

Hey Raj,
My story is similar. I was 14 at the time, I used to hang at the local guitar store dreaming of the day I could get my hands on one. One of the guys there turned me on to Alcatrazz Live sentence. It took me about 10 years to find a copy of that, but he did send me home with a Guitar Player mag with Yngwie on the cover. A month or so later his first solo album was released and I still remember riding my bike in the slushy rain to get it and that first listen being completly blown away!\
I just saw him a few weeks ago at the SD house of blues, and he still has the fire. it was a great show. The crowd was going nuts, it was a near riot!

He is awesome.
Although, everytime I hear him I think Blackmore on speed for some reason.
