We are zipping around our axis at ~1,000 mph, whilst also orbiting the sun at a speed of 67,000 mph and are completely oblivious due to the atmosphere.
The part I find most amazing is weather. If it is raining in Chicago today, those clouds will arrive in NYC about three days later. So while the counter clockwise rotation of the earth (looking down onto the north pole) is 1000 mph, it appears (sans atmosphere) the weather is actually moving FASTER for it to move eastward over time.
