He came home with a rocket kit and we slapped it together last night, painted it this morning and showed up at 11:30 with the paint still wet. I suggested that he shape it like a boattail bullet and it worked for him. he beat them all. I was really proud moment for me as a father.:D
...then his narrow six year old self started to gloat when he recieved his 1st place trophy. I immediately put a stop to it. A quick lecture in humility got him back on track.:MMM
We had a lot of fun and it gave my son some much needed confidence.

Awesome!! Great job on keeping the attitude in check too.
Very cool. It will be something he remembers forever - both the victory and the humility.

Second on the pics,
We only did the rocket derby in my troop a few times, but the pinewood derby was always my favorite. Some of the best experiences of my childhood. Give him a pat on the back from this Eagle Scout!

Cool! I remember those rockets. Mine didn't do so well, but my Pinewood Derby racing car won second place in my Scout competition, back in 1970.

HeeHaw,
Congrats on the win! My son and I are very active in scouting. The big event is coming soon.....Pinewood Derby. You would think it is for the Boys but the Dads get really excited.

Congratulations! Glad you got the 'attitude' in check real fast.
My son used to win the Pine Wood Derby hands down. Those were fun times for sure!
Cool, he won.
I remember the race I was in. All the dads "helped" their kids out and build these perfectly round ships that were painted just right. We were all so proud of them but there was this lone kid whose dad wasn't there who did it all himself and it looked like he used a pocket knife to carve the thing and then just sprayed some dayglow orange on it without even sanding it. He must have kept trying to carve it straight and taking more and more material off until it looked like there wasn't much left. We were a good bunch and everyone felt bad for him. That is until he put the thing on the wire and smoked us all! The thing was so light, it was three times faster than anyone else's. Both my granddad and I looked at each other and realized where we went wrong.

I won a regional pinewood derby race when I was about 7. To this day I still consider it an important moment in my life. And I still have awesome memories of the time I spent with my Dad while we were putting it together... Priceless.
Good job on being a Dad..congratulations.
