This is Fang, he came to us with a broken jaw and injuries from having been entangled in abandoned fishing gear.

When we do these public releases, we usually take a kid from the crowd and let them open the cage. they seem to get a kick out of it.

Here you can see his transmitter and also the scars from the lines that had entangled him.

Awesome! Tell me, how do you fix a broken jaw on a wild animal, do they have to be sedated for a while?

Unfortunately our treatment protocols prohibit me from discussing specifics on public forums.

Thanks for posting, Sean.

Your job has to be an emotional roller coaster. I imagine I'd be fighting tears one day and ready to strangle someone the next.

Well, I do it as a volunteer, so i'm not usually there every day, but when we have 20-30 seals in house at the same time it can get a little rough because then the feeding and care schedule goes into overdrive. throw a dolphin into the mix and it gets pretty scary. right now with just a couple seals and a handful of sea turtles, it gives us time to get caught up on paperwork and repairs.

the busy season is coming and it has a way of weeding people out.
