Does BMW make a Sedan automatic transmission version of the M3?

I've been reading about the '09 M3 and keep reading this "M Double-Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic" deal.
Can someone explain to me what the heck does that mean? I know the coupe version is offered only with a manual tranny, but the sedan should be a bit more subtle? I believe BMW is trying to compete with the MB C63 AMG and Lexus IS F, both auto tranny vehicles.

BTW, I test drove the IS F today.... DAMN!!!! what a beast.

hi, I'm a sales manager at a BMW store(new to the brand, but 15 years experience with Porsche, Audi, Jag, Land Rover, Volvo). The dual clutch is available in all M3's(coupe, convertible, sedan). I used to say it's like 2 3 speed transmissions, when 1st gear is engaged, 2nd is ready and waiting the 2nd clutch instantly shitfts gears into 2nd gear...now 3rd is waiting etc...I think BMW's is a 7speed-not working now and 3 drinks into evening). It feels like your driving a manual tranny even when in fully automatic mode. This car is a MONSTER at 414hp and a tranny WAY faster than you could ever shift(even if you're M. Shumaker(sp?)). Hope this helps.

Hey Chad thanks a bunch for your prompt response!!!

Dude and I am as stupid as the guy bringing a PRS Private Stock to GC, for a string change and a tune job, when it comes to car terminology. Honest to God.

I love the horsepower resources under the pedal but don't care for the other "stuff".

Is the M3 sedan as simple to drive as put in the key, turn it, put it in drive and go?
Or I have to push a clutch and shift stuff?

Sorry man I am stupid.

to me the M3 is too much. allot of horsepower and suspension that won't be used unless your going to the track or have a small penus. The 335i or the all wheel drive version is a more comfortable option with a GREAT motor(300 hp twin turbo inline 6) and a "normal" at(with the option of a cluthLESS manual). The M3 does not require you to use a clutch, there is a fully automatic mode where you don't have to shift anything-it's allot more aggresive than the normal at. up to you what's right, try them both and decide what's right for you(don't fall for the bullshit that is has to be a manual or M3 or your a ***** bs)

I drive a 335 sedan, and have also driven a M6 (500hp V10) on a track during the BMW performance driving school in Spartanburg SC. I'll tell you that the 335 is a fantastic daily driver and will smoke 99% of cars on the road. Just a smooth as silk car that can be very tame around town, but will fly when opened up, amazing chassis, beautiful smooth engine, killer brakes, perfect balance, etc. If you haven't driven one, it's a bit scary at first actually. But oh so satisfying!

The M6, after two days of training, was so powerful and tight that I had a grin on my face from ear to ear. It's an incredible car. A true privilege to take around the track. The instructors said "drive em like you stole em", and I did believe me. Without the training I probably couldn't have handled it.

But, as the previous poster said, definitely check out a 335. Sure I'd love to have a M3, but the 335 is probably better suited for a daily driver and is very far from a slouch in any way.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll probably test drive one later this week.

Chad, I understand the "extra" HP and how they might be excessive. But there is a weird sense of pleasure in separating from traffic or breaking away from the idiot doing 45 on the left lane.
I also understand the stigma associated with Euro sport cars, but you know what?! I don't care what others think and I am well equiped on the schlong department, so what the heck you got to enjoy life. We are only here for a short time!!!

Thanks doodes!!

They are fast and all wheel drive, and yes you can get a automatic.
In fact you can get a used certified with a 100k warranty for under 30K

There's no such thing as too much horsepower. My E55 is about 500 crank or so.. but the torque is where it's always at! And I could still use more power I think.:dude

If you can swing it.. you'll much prefer the C63 to any of the other options. Torque is king.
