Just wondering if a lot of folks are spending less money on vacations due to the current economy? If so, is it because you don't have the cash and don't want to go further into debt, or is there some other reason?

I'm still taking the family to Disney in January because the kids absolutely love it there. However, I just canceled my annual trip to Vegas because on top of the airfare and hotel cost I just can't see myself gambling away any more cash beyond what I've already lost in the stock market.

Neither my parents or I plan on "scaling back" on our semi-annual vacations. Just came back from a two month long one with my folks, and before that (in August) took a two week long one with a friend. I love 'em. Have gone on three this year, with a fourth in the works before the years end.... and the Canadian dollar is worth shyte right now.

As one of the early victims of this 'recession that's not a recession' I hope one day to afford such a thing.

My wife and I always go somewhere for the weekend of our annv. which is the 26th of this month. This year we decided to lay low even though it is our 20th. My work has been good over the past few months but without much on the horizon (I am in construction) We decided the best thing we could do for each other this year would be to pay down some of our credit card stuff instead of adding to it

I cut out my annual Florida trip that I take during the month of Oct, because the airfare was insane. Instead, I've been taking alot of nice low cost "weekend" trips close to home.

I will take my annual summer vacation, but I'm uncertain of my destination. I usually go to Spain/Portugal. I'm still in a state of shock over how bad the dollar did against the Euro. Money just didin't go as far I had hoped. I may take a break from going abroad this year, and settle for a vacation in the states this Summer.

Yep. We are staying home this Xmas instead of our usual trip to NYC with its associated (expensive) hotels, meals and touristy stuff. Just going up for the day to visit family and then heading home.

We go to Mexico twice a year for a couple weeks each time. Soon we will (hopefully) make it a yearly 2 month stretch. To accomplish this I have scaled way back on unnecessary spending. Yes, such as 'gear'. My time in the Yucatan is more important than new stuff to noodle with. My truck is 15 years old, in primo shape, and my RV is too.

My last vacation was a "stay-cation". I had 9 days to stay at home and enjoy my home and family. It was great. I had time to learn new songs, sleep in, take naps, get drunk and listen to music, play with my kid, take her on some day-trips, cook good dinners for my family, play with my dog, talk to old friends on the telephone... it was an awesome vacation.

I followed up by taking my daughter to the beach for a long weekend, with my out-of state elderly mother and my sister. I left my wife at home to get a break and do what she wanted to do without any motherly duties for a couple of days. As a stay-at-home mom, it was her first chance to have a few days of complete peace and quiet in almost 5 years. She was thrilled. It was a win-win for everyone involved.

Next year, I think I'm going to take the kid to Disney on one vacation, and surprise my wife with a few days in Paris on the next one, that is..if the economy doesn't completely tank.

doing a long weekend in New Orleans in Jan. and our usual week on Cape Cod in Sept. but that's it, any other travel (we might usually do a week somewhere else) is out of the question.

We live in coastal SC. In 2008 we've done Disney, Washington, DC, NYC and a trip to the mountains. 2009 will include a Disney trip, a trip to the mountains, a major city trip (were suppose to go to LA for a wedding, but that got called off) and possibly a trip to Japan with just me and my wife (though this may come in 2010).

I probably won't go to Europe this summer but will buy a Nikon D700 and a Sony HDR-FX1 Hi Def camcorder instead. Both will help me to be more competitive with free lance photography and videography.

With the economy the way it is, I want to hedge my bets in case of massive layoffs that force me to rely on my free lance work for a living.
