Please do not turn this into a political thread. I already know where I stand on everything and dont want this to go down that path. I just want to ask a few questions related to firearms.
1) Have you personally purchased any firearms since November 4th?
I have but was planning on a few of those purchases long before then. I have a few more purchases coming too. BTW, Keltecs are really nice.
2) What are you feeding your firearms in a personal defense round?

I haven't purchased any firearms in over 15 years. I currently use a .40 165 Grain Hollow Point as my primary round.

Federal lightning 36gr hollow point .22LR. I may buy a Remington 870. Point and shoot and no worries about the projectiles going through the wall and killing someone in the house next door.

I've planning a gun puchase for a while now, probably an U/O for upland hunting, besides that I use Remington .22LR Golden Bullet's which were a huge step up from the Federal's I was using. Those would clog up, jam, and misfire my Browning all day long. I have to chamber my .357 in .38 Special and I'm using some reloads that came with it (I inherited it from my grandfather). After those run out I'll probably switch over to Remington's.

I haven't bought any since November 4th, but picked up seven new hand-guns throughout the year.
As far as "defensive" ammo goes, I carry Federal Hydra-Shok 230 Grain 45 ACP.
To your point about "Since November 4th".....I am planning a couple of Wilson AR-15 purchases after the turn of new year.

I purchased a Marlin 336 in 30-30 and a Ruger Vaquero Birds Head 45LC just prior to the election. These purchases didn't have anything to do with the election. I needed a lever gun that I could mount a scope on and had been jonesing for a Birds Head Vaquero for years.
I have to keep myself out of guns shops as much as possible so that I can save $$$ for the Martin D-18 I plan on buying.

well not sure what the significance of november 4th is outside of politics...
I have not bought since november 4th but in this last summer I bought a Savage pump 12 gauge, I was hoping to get some duck hunting in this year but school has kept me too busy.
I am looking to probably buy either a .357 (that can also shoot .38), a 30-06 or a 7mm in the next year.

No purchases since Nov. 4th. I do not anticipate any major changes to gun legislation despite what pundits may think.
My personal defense load is the .45 ACP Cor-Bon 165g + P JHP in my custom Ed Brown Kobra.

Eric, sorry, I really wasnt asking that due to politics other than I know some gun dealers who have had a serious run on guns. I asked the question about that just to get a feel for who is buying the guns since the election without the thread moving into a slew of political views on guns..

I went to a gun show on Sunday last weekend, pretty crowded. I heard some of the vendors saying that Saturday was insane.

In the last couple of weeks, I've picked up:
Bushmaster XM-15 (shot one and fell in love with it)
GSG-5 (ditto)
Keltec 3AT (wanted a cheap pocket gun)
and today, a Kimber 1911 (I've never owned a 1911. Since I'm going to start teaching the firearms course, I picked one up...everyone should own one of these!)
November 4th has nothing to do with it. My last gun was purchased much earlier in the year, and I traded in a couple too (a Glock 21 and an old Interarms/Walther PPK/S).
There has been a huge run on guns lately. I AM starting to stockpile ammo as I find good deals. A huge ammo tax is worrisome.
I use ball ammo for everything but my .45. The .45 gets hydrashock. The ballistics I've seen seem to indicate that the last thing you need with 9mm or .380 is less penetration. With the .45, though, I'm concerned that a stray round will travel through too many things in a defensive situation. Talking about stuff like this always makes me a little uncomfortable because I don't like to think about it, but that's what I do and the reasons I do it.

Funny. I just switched last weekend from Remington Golden Bullets to the Federals. The Remingtons would jam, misfire, etc in my GSG-5 and Ruger Mark II like there was not tommorow. I couldn't get through a magazine! The Federals have been flawless.
There seems to be something up with .22s lately. Everyone I know has their "good" brands and "bad" brands now. I don't remember it ever being like this. 20 years ago, every .22 I had would fire every .22 cartridge I bought.

That's odd, my Ruger likes the Federal better. Rugers will eat most anything. The Federals are available locally and cheap.

I love the Keltecs. After much research I picked up 2 of the P11's for carry purposes for the wife and I. We are talking the CWP class next saturday which is taught by our local Police Chief which is pretty cool I think.
I too fear a tax hike on ammo among other things.

My Browning is pretty picky, only bad thing about that gun, actually. I pretty much had the same experience with the Federals as you did with the Remington's. I guess it varies from gun to gun.
That's odd, my Ruger likes the Federal better. Rugers will eat most anything. The Federals are available locally and cheap.
My Ruger is the same way. Doesn't matter what you put in it it will shoot flawlessly. The Remington's are only slightly more expensive and it's worth it to not have jams and misfires, pluss they leave less gunk.

There were gun runs on shops in the metro NY area. Defense shotguns were scooped up, I suspect Bushmasters and the like were as well.
I picked up a Remington 870 Express Synthetic, 12-guage, yesterday.
Federal Magnum Wing Shok, 6 shot.

Lots of .22 lr ammo for practice, a .22lr conversion kit for my glock 19, lots of 9mm hydrashock ammo.

They are still available here. I was at bill's gunshop in robbinsdale, mn today and they had a boatload of AKs and ARs on the walls.
I didn't like the prices, e.g. saw a stag arms basic ar15 clone at $1000, but they were available.

Wally World had a huge run on ammo. I went last week to pick up some JHP's and there were none. The guy at the counter told me the husband of one of the employees came in the day before and dropped $2.5k on ammo.
I use the Winchester white box stuff for practice and have been looking at the Federal stuff mentioned in the thread for carry.

1) Have you personally purchased any firearms since November 4th?
I had been thinking about acquiring a firearm for some time now, but with my somewhat pacifist wife, I really did not have the gumption to pursue it. (I'm not a stranger to guns having grown up with them a doing and great deal of hunting in my younger days).
Then, the economy tanked (which could lead to the collapse of society and the onset of anarchy ;)), and it started to become apparent that the 'winds of change' would take hold. At that point (early October), I started talking about getting a gun.
To my surprise, she did not have a problem and at one point even said 'maybe you should get one'.
So, this past weekend I acquired a basic AR-15 style rifle. And we'll see where we go from that.
2) What are you feeding your firearms in a personal defense round?
I picked up a couple of boxes of .223 ammo when I bought the gun. The shop had bulk ammo available, but I felt I could get a better deal from some of the online sources.
However, when I checked this weekend, a lot of the online ammo sites were out of quality .223/5.56 ammo. I'm going back to the shop this afternoon to pickup a case for the AR-15, and I'll see what's available from them.

Dickie;
Pretty much had everything I wanted long before the election. What do you expect from a cowboy? :dunno
I have a couple of friends in the firearms business, and they virtually have lines outside their doors since 11/4.
I'm thinking about some new competition guns, but the ones I have are fine, so that would be a frivolous expenditure. :warning Still.....
My home guns are all revolvers. I know, not too sexy, but they have large muzzle diameters.
Where I live, personal carry is strictly verboten, so I would never do it. :messedup

Tormenos;
They're all extremely good choices, as is the .270. Depends on your location and budget. Bolt rifles are not likely to increase much in the current (sorry to say it!) political climate. If you're on a tight budget, Consider Savage, as well. They tend to be rather inexpensive and among the most accurate. Personal preference and intended use are the keys, here. I'm partial to my Browning, but, I'm also have a Savage FP that actually gets more use.
Cheers!

I was in the exact same boat! I was thinking about Bushmaster for home defense, but decided against it due to close neighbors. Just not safe for our living arrangement. Shotgun with a load that won't penetrate double sheetrock so easily seemed a better fit for us.
May we never need it other than at the range!:hide

Ellen was the same way when I met her. My story is similar to yours in that she started out 100% anti-gun. Now, 4 or 5 years later, she's got her CCW, enjoys shooting for sport, and has actually become a pretty competent trap shooter.
It's amazing that even the most anti-gun people become pro-gun when they actually take the time to learn something about it.
By the way, did anyone else see Al Roker's special last night? He can barely handle that little 9mm Glock, but they gave him an automatic to fire. Clowns.
Back on topic: our next purchase will probably be something for Ellen to protect from animals (four legged and otherwise) when shes out in our woods. I'm thinking the Taurus Judge is a good choice to take care of an angry dog. She wanted a pistol for bear. LOL... I suggested she learn to run really fast. :)

Politics are not being discussed. I'm giving a slight bit of leeway to the 'timeframe' in question, but not much.
The items themselves can be discussed. The laws, politics, etc cannot be.

Honestly, I wouldn't use 357 Ammo for home defense....instead I would use Federal Hydra-Shok 129 Grain 38 +P
Less velocity and noise.....and easier to control.

VERY wise advice.
In addition, a .357 going off in the house after dark is going to blind and deafen you AND the perp/racoon/killer squirrel - disorientation is not your friend.

I'm using a Remington 870 for the house loaded with 00 buck, and a Walther PPK .380 loaded with BAT bulletts ( Blitz Action Trauma ) or a very old Colt .32 for carry. Heaven forbid I ever have to use the .380 with the BATs they go in at 38 cal and if they come out, they come out the size of a dinner plate. You no longer can purchase BATs.

Don't be surprised if the shop trys to up sell you into a larger calber.

I just picked one up in Stainless w/4" barrell. Right out of the box, I'm hitting bowling pins at 100 yards with about a 30% hit rate. That's with the crappy sights and no adjustment whatsoever. There's not one sharp edge on it...it's like a custom build. I never really liked 1911's that much, but Kimber makes an impressive gun that's definately grown on me.
