View Full Version : Quick, before I change my mind
Going through some old things I've got laying around, and cripes I find a bunch of stuff that's 10 years old already (I started playing around again in 1998, effectively after a 19-year layoff).
Setting:
This is a bassist, drummer and I getting together in one of those "jam / rehearsal" spaces in NYC back in '98 to fitz away a couple of hours. This was the first thing we did, completely improvised and really just a warm up. I set up a little Walkman cassette recorder on one side of the room, plugged a Suhr into an original Barber Burn Unit and a Maxon delay of some sort, into a Twin Reverb.
It's basically a dirge. It's got some parts that are so freaking corny I can barely believe I'm posting this. Couple of great clams, too, such as the beauty at 0:30. You can also tell the fingers aren't really loose yet.
But, it's got a couple of parts I like and the overall mood I like a lot.
13MB.
Laughs are at my expense, and that's just fine with me. With people like Matte, Chuck, and Tomo posting clips in this section, I deserve to be laughed at for posting something like this.

Still goes to show you that a twin and a couple of pedals are a GREAT rig.
I like these kind of search and destroy jams.
Like someone said, nice thoughtful development and tone.
What's a couple of clams between friends :)
Nice Richard,
Chuck
I love way you guys made openness and there are great conversation with your guitar and other instruments.
Fantastic music you are playing! Loved the way your bridge squeak ... very musical! Nice tone too.
Very tasty! Thanks for sharing with us.

I made it!! I was worried that I might miss it when you change your mind.....
Beautiful vibe RH. Had a kind of Landau thing for me. Lots of space and tasty air. Evocative whammy work.
Barber sounded smooth too.....

The clam at 30 is a blues note. If you had played it again we'd have hailed you a genius.
It's all free and unfettered. I love these impromptu things. I'm glad you posted this rh.
It's a journey.

Yeah, it's surprising, but you ARE the only guy on TGP who ever played a clam. Most of us don't. ;)
This is really something special. Please don't change your mind and pull it, thanks. That would be very wrong.
Well, this isn't what I was expecting at all. I thought this would sit there at 0 replies until I pulled it in a few hours out of embarrassment.
Boy, life is weird.
I'm very grateful for every posted comment.
Ed, you've got a PM headed your way sir.

I love it!
Sounds great to me.
I think if you had not been the one to play it and heard it from some one else you would love it too.

beautiful continuity. thanks for posting!
very cool vibe
Excellent listening
Puts me into chill mindset
That Burn Unit w/the Twin is a nice match
However, I do find the Twins, even blackfaces to be flat sounding at times. You might want to look into putting a merc mag OT in there. I did it to my tonemaster w/a few other mods, and it has been incredible
I do like the bell-like cleans you got goin' on, and the jam section reminds me of something off of Sheik yerbouti

Yep...what everyone has said...DIG IT!
Seriously...good stuff (beyond good for off the cuff!).
Kudos for the phat recording quality, too...that's as much a part of the process as anything else, IMO.

Excellent playing and tones. Nice to hear someone not trying to cram everything they know in at one time. (Like I do :D)

I'm really digging this a lot, mr. h.
Sounds like I need to get in touch with those guys and book some more time... with a fresh box of blank cassette tape. :)
Thanks very, very much for listening, enjoying, and then posting to say so.
